Overview

Vinyl Digital, also known as VinDig, is a German company that operates an online shop for vinyl records and other sound carriers and, since 2012, an independent music label. It was founded in 2011 by Tobias Wolf-Mühlburger as a mail-order record business in Bingen am Rhein, and in 2014 the company moved its seat to Mörschbach in the Hunsrück region. Wolf-Mühlburger is the managing partner of the business. At the outset, Vinyl Digital was mainly engaged in buying and selling rare and special records. From this quickly grew a mail-order trade in vinyl sound carriers. The underlying idea was to carry the particular character and sound of the record into the digital realm: records were digitized in an elaborate process and offered in addition to the physical sound carrier. With this idea, Vinyl Digital was one of the first providers in the field of digital music commerce in Germany. In 2012 the company also became active as a music label, releasing Fiva & Das Phantom Orchester – Die Stadt Gehört Wieder Mir (Kopfhörer Recordings) exclusively on vinyl. Shortly afterwards the label signed the Chilean producer Brous One as its first own artist with the release of his debut album Un Momento En El Tiempo. In the following years VinDig worked with artists such as Blumentopf, Haftbefehl, DJ Krush, Joey Bada$$ and Wun Two. The instrumental series EXPEDITion, realized regularly since 2015 with various beat producers, is also popular in scene circles. In 2016, with Prezident's album Limbus reaching No. 13 in the German album charts, the label achieved its first major chart success. The label is active above all in the areas of hip-hop, rap, beat art and electronic music. Besides digital and vinyl releases and reissues of established artists, the label also offers new, talented musicians a platform for releasing vinyl, tape and digital releases.
