Overview
Vincennes en Anciennes is a French association of owners and enthusiasts of classic vehicles, described as one of the largest multi-marque classic car clubs in France, with around 3,000 vehicles representing some 60 brands. It is best known for its monthly gathering on the Esplanade Saint-Louis at the Château de Vincennes, held on the first Sunday of each month from 9:00 to 12:30, which typically draws between 250 and 400 vehicles. The club also organises the Traversée de Paris, a parade through the capital that can bring together up to 700 vehicles, with a winter edition on the first Sunday of January and, since 2008, a summer edition on the first Sunday of August. Other activities include charity drives for the Téléthon and participation in events such as the European Heritage Days. The association was formally created in 1998, following more than a decade of informal monthly meets that began in December 1986 at the initiative of Michel Lemoine, Hervé Marthon, Patrick Devoucoux and other enthusiasts. Its headquarters and main meeting point are in Vincennes, in the Île-de-France region. The club's website promotes its events, photo galleries and reports, and in 2024 it received a first prize in the Grand Prix des Clubs.
History
The classic car gathering on the Esplanade Saint-Louis at the Château de Vincennes has existed since December 1986. It was created on the initiative of Michel Lemoine, president of the 403 cabriolet club, Hervé Marthon, Patrick Devoucoux and other classic car enthusiasts who joined them. The first meeting counted about thirty cars. The gathering operated with a tacit agreement from the Parks and Gardens department of the City of Paris, obtained by Patrick Devoucoux because no damage had been observed. In the late 1990s, given the scale of the event, the Prefecture of Police, which has jurisdiction over the Bois de Vincennes, asked Michel Lemoine and Patrick Devoucoux to create an association to structure the event. The association was created in 1998. Jacques Lemoine, Michel's brother, was its first president. As the Esplanade Saint-Louis depends on the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the association signed an occupancy agreement. At that time there were 180 members. Over the years the club grew into one of the largest multi-marque associations in France, with around 3,000 vehicles across 60 brands. It expanded its activities beyond the monthly gathering to include the Traversée de Paris, which can bring together up to 700 vehicles, with a winter edition on the first Sunday of January and, since 2008, a summer edition on the first Sunday of August. It also organises Téléthon charity drives for people with disabilities and participates in events such as the European Heritage Days. In 2024 the club received a first prize in the Grand Prix des Clubs.
