Viatel is a telecommunications and technology-services brand with roots in a U.S. fiber-optic network operator founded in Colorado in 1991 by Martin Varsavsky. The original Viatel Inc. built and operated long-distance fiber infrastructure and expanded internationally during the telecommunications boom of the 1990s.
