Vexil'Òc

Vexil'Òc (ISSN 2117-9166) is an Occitan-language online journal devoted to vexillology — the study of flags. It was created in 1997 by Joan Francés Blanc and has been published at an annual pace since 2000. The publication describes itself as "more an Occitan-language publication on vexillology than a publication on Occitan vexillology," meaning its scope extends beyond the flags of Occitania to flags of the world and other vexillological topics. It is distributed primarily online, with PDF issues hosted on Free, an online-readable version on Issuu, and mirror sites on Tripod and Freehostingeu. The journal also maintains an Occitan-language flag encyclopedia, the Enciclopèdia vexilologica. As of 2023, 30 issues had been published, with issue No. 30 appearing in 2023. The publication is a niche, independent, non-commercial editorial project rather than a mass-market brand, but it functions as a trademarked periodical title with a stable ISSN and a consistent editorial identity.

Vexil'Òc was created in 1997 by Joan Francés Blanc as an Occitan-language online journal of vexillology. The first issue appeared in July 1997, followed by issues in October 1997 and January 1998. Early issues were published on the free Tripod hosting service at vexiloc.tripod.com. A mirror was later made available on Free at bandieras.free.fr/vexiloc, and another mirror on Freehostingeu at vexiloc.eu.pn. PDF files of the issues are hosted on the Free site, and an online-readable version is available on Issuu. From 2000 onward, the journal settled into an annual publication rhythm, with issues generally dated December of each year. Issue No. 4, devoted to the Val d'Aran, attracted particular attention because its main article was bilingual in Occitan and Catalan. By 2023, the journal had reached issue No. 30. The publication also maintains an Occitan-language flag encyclopedia, the Enciclopèdia vexilologica. The journal carries the ISSN 2117-9166.
