Versátil Home Vídeo

Versátil Home Vídeo is a Brazilian producer and distributor of films on physical media — DVDs and Blu-rays — founded in Brazil in 1999. The company specialises in releasing classic films aimed at collectors. Most of its titles are outside the catalogues of streaming services, and its catalogue is assembled through curation. From 2002, the release of films began to be supervised by a curation led by Fernando Brito. In 2009, celebrating ten years of the company, it released its first Blu-ray in Brazil, of the film Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (Brazil: Cinema Paradiso). Due to the crisis in bookstores in the 2010s — which also sold physical media films, such as Cultura and Saraiva — the company suffered a loss of R$ 1.5 million. It later decided to set up its own e-commerce to distribute the films. In September 2015, Versátil Home Vídeo reduced the release of films on Blu-ray, and film production came to depend on partnerships made exclusively with film distributors. In 2021, two titles were sold with some units autographed by the directors of the productions: O Som ao Redor, by Kleber Mendonça Filho, and O Barato de Iacanga, by Thiago Mattar. In August 2021, celebrating the company's twenty-two years, Versátil Home Vídeo launched a new website. The company also produces Blu-ray editions for cinema distributors such as Alpha Filmes, California Filmes, CPC-UMES Filmes, Europa Filmes, Fênix Filmes, Globo Filmes and TV Globo, Mares Filmes, Paris Filmes, Supo Mungam Films and Vitrine Filmes. Its own Blu-ray editions include standalone titles and collections, such as the 2022 Studio Ghibli collection (6 films).
