Overview

Vereinigte Wirtschaftsdienste (vwd) is a German financial information and technology company founded on 24 February 1949 in Frankfurt am Main. It began as a non-profit economic news agency created by the Western Allied occupation authorities to supply German industry with reliable information on foreign markets, stock exchanges, and import-export regulations. Over the decades, vwd evolved from a general economic news service into a leading provider of real-time financial data and later into a software solutions provider for the FinTech and RegTech sectors. In 2019, the company was acquired by the Norwegian Infront Group, and the vwd brand was largely retired; its products and entities continue under the Infront name. Today, Infront serves over 3,500 wealth management firms across Europe, with more than 70,000 professional users and over 1 million daily users, processing 8 billion data points daily. The company offers market data, trading software, portfolio management, regulatory compliance, and data feed solutions.

History

Vereinigte Wirtschaftsdienste (vwd) was founded on 24 February 1949 in Frankfurt am Main as a non-profit economic news agency. It was established by the Deutscher Pressedienst (dpd), Deutsche Nachrichtenagentur (DENA), and Deutscher Wirtschaftsdienst (DWD) with the aim of providing German industry with reliable information about foreign markets, stock exchanges, and import-export regulations. Although Reuters initially sought to participate, foreign investment was not permitted by the military government at the time. However, vwd obtained exclusive distribution rights for Reuters economic news in the German market. In 1951, Reuters joined as a shareholder after investment rules changed. By the early 1960s, vwd had grown into the largest economic news agency on the European continent. In its early years, vwd focused on general economic and industry information. From 1956, its key product was the publication 'Nachrichten für Außenhandel' (NfA), a newspaper for foreign trade. vwd also produced numerous specialized services for different sectors, marked with the 'VWD' prefix. With the founding of the European Union in 1958, vwd added coverage of European integration. The company also built its own editorial network, starting with a correspondent in Bonn in 1950 and a bureau in Luxembourg in 1952. Over the decades, vwd transformed from a news agency into a provider of real-time financial data and later into a software solutions provider for FinTech and RegTech. In 2019, vwd was acquired by the Norwegian Infront Group, and the vwd brand was largely retired. The company's entities and products continue under the Infront name. Today, Infront is one of Europe's leading providers of market data and software, serving thousands of wealth management firms and processing billions of data points daily.
