According to its official website, it was re-founded on 16 January 1946 in Cologne as the continuation of a notary assistants' association that had existed in Cologne since 1901, and was entered in the Cologne register of associations in 1946. In 1983 its name was changed to V.D.N. Vereinigung der Notariatsangestellten e.V. Its stated purpose is to safeguard, represent and promote the professional, economic and social interests of its members and of the employees and trainees of notaries and notary-attorneys. The board works on an honorary basis and maintains close contact with the Rheinische Notarkammer and with notaries.
History
According to the association's official Vereinsgeschichte page, on 16 January 1946 notary employees from various cities of the Rhineland gathered in the then premises of the Notarkammer Köln to re-found the professional association, continuing the earlier Notariatsgehilfenverein that had existed in Cologne since 1901. The association was given a statute and the name Vereinigung der Notariatsangestellten im Bezirk der Rheinischen Notarkammer e.V., and was entered in the register of associations of the Amtsgericht Köln in 1946. Because the association gained more and more members who were not active in the area of the Rheinische Notarkammer, its name was changed in 1983 to V.D.N. Vereinigung der Notariatsangestellten e.V. The stated purpose of the association is the safeguarding, representation and promotion of the professional, economic and social interests of all its members as well as of the employees and trainees of notaries and notary-attorneys. The board works on an honorary basis and maintains close contact with the Rheinische Notarkammer and with notaries.
