History
Vauban Books is dedicated to challenging the ideological curation of contemporary European – and, especially, French – writing in translation. It was born of the realization that much of what passes for contemporary writing in Europe and, in particular, France reflects a very deliberate process of ideological curation and gatekeeping. The name references Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, an engineering genius and Maréchal de France, whose fortifications symbolize the defense of culture.
