Overview
V-Bus GmbH is a German public transport bus company headquartered in Lampertheim, Hesse. It is a 100% subsidiary of Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv), the integrated transport operator for the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. V-Bus operates scheduled urban and regional bus services, rail replacement services (Schienenersatzverkehr) and event transport on behalf of rnv, using a modern fleet of low-floor midibuses, standard buses and articulated buses. According to the company's own website, V-Bus has around 95 of its own buses, about 20 modern replacement and support vehicles (some of them electrically powered) and a team of roughly 230 employees. Its vehicles are seen in scheduled service, event traffic and rail replacement operations in the cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg, and — within rail replacement duties — also at any location served by the rnv rail network, occasionally reaching as far as Bad Dürkheim on the German Wine Route or Weinheim on the Bergstraße. The fleet is maintained and repaired in the company's own workshop. The company emerged at the end of 2005 from the takeover of the bus business of Reisedienst Oskar Mühlhäuser. It initially ran the Viernheim city bus lines 611 and 612 on behalf of Stadtwerke Viernheim GmbH and operated line 688 between Weinheim, Birkenau and Nieder-Liebersbach on its own account. From September 2005 to the end of 2009 it fully operated bus lines 629 and 630 between Heddesheim and Hirschberg on behalf of rnv and MVV OEG AG. In March 2007 V-Bus won the Odenwald-Mitte line bundle tendered by the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN), covering lines 667, 668, 684, 687 and 689 in the Bergstraße district, which it has operated since 1 April 2007 in cooperation with three regional bus companies. Until April 2015 it also ran works services for BASF in Ludwigshafen. V-Bus was merged with Beth in 2012, and in 2017 its registered office moved from Viernheim to Lampertheim. As an rnv subsidiary, V-Bus is part of the public transport network of the Rhine-Neckar region, complementing the tram, light rail and bus services of its parent company and the wider VRN transport association.
History
V-Bus GmbH traces its origins to the end of 2005, when it was formed through the takeover of the bus company Reisedienst Oskar Mühlhäuser. The new company, based in Viernheim at the time, became a subsidiary of Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv), the integrated transport operator of the Rhine-Neckar region. As the successor to Mühlhäuser, V-Bus initially operated the Viernheim city bus lines 611 and 612 on behalf of Stadtwerke Viernheim GmbH, and ran line 688 between Weinheim, Birkenau and Nieder-Liebersbach on its own account. From September 2005 until 31 December 2009, it fully operated bus lines 629 and 630 between Heddesheim and Hirschberg on behalf of rnv and MVV OEG AG. It was also deployed by rnv for event transport. In March 2007, V-Bus won the tender for the Odenwald-Mitte line bundle put out by the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN), covering lines 667, 668, 684, 687 and 689 in the Bergstraße district. These lines have been operated since 1 April 2007 in cooperation with three regional bus companies. Until April 2015, V-Bus also provided works shuttle services for BASF in Ludwigshafen. In 2012, V-Bus was merged with Beth, and in 2017 its registered office was moved from Viernheim to Lampertheim. The company maintains its vehicles at its depot and workshop in Lampertheim. Today it operates scheduled services, rail replacement services and event transport on behalf of rnv, with a fleet of around 95 own buses, about 20 modern replacement and support vehicles (some electric) and roughly 230 employees.
