The history of VÖLKEL spans more than a century and two countries. In 1915, Thomas Benjamin Carrington and Thomas Carrington founded Tom Carrington & Co. Ltd. in the United Kingdom, starting in a parental garage to manufacture thread-cutting tools. The business grew quickly, moving to a modern factory building in West Bromwich in 1920. In 1948, operations relocated again to Walsall, a site still in use today. In 1980, a parallel story began in Germany when Doris and Peter Völkel, together with two partners, founded Völkel KG in a garage to produce holding tools for thread-cutting tools. Larger premises were occupied in 1981 and again in 1988, with production significantly expanded and modernised. A new era began in 1990 when the Carrington and Völkel families, along with another partner, founded VÖLKEL GmbH. This merged 75 years of tap-making experience with the energy of the younger founders, creating a strategically and operationally integrated unit: VÖLKEL Threading Solutions. In the following years, production and distribution became increasingly international. John Carrington led UK sales, while his older brother Tom took technical charge of global production. Peter and Daniel Völkel were responsible for German and international business and overall management. The next generation, Sarah Joa-Völkel and Luke Carrington, has since taken on responsibility within the company.
