It was founded in 1914 as a workers compensation insurance carrier. The company sells its products through more than 2,200 independent insurance agents around the country, a practice it has followed since 1928. It is also the second-largest insurer of Agents' Errors and Omissions (E&O) business in the United States.
History
Utica National was founded on February 13, 1914, as the Utica Mutual Compensation Insurance Corporation, a workers compensation insurance carrier. The company quickly expanded its coverages and policyholders, becoming one of New York State's most successful and respected mutual insurance organizations. In 1928, it began appointing agents to sell automobile insurance, moving to the independent agency system. During the Great Depression, Utica Mutual stood on solid financial ground. Today, the Utica National Insurance Group is an award-winning, nationally recognized organization providing personal and commercial insurance products and services.
