Overview
Uskovnica Lodge (Slovene: Koča na Uskovnici) is a mountain hut on the Pokljuka plateau in Slovenia, situated at an elevation of 1,154 metres on the lower part of the spacious Uskovnica alpine pasture, which forms the south-eastern part of the plateau above the Upper Bohinj Valley and the Voje valley. It is operated by the Planinsko društvo Srednja vas v Bohinju (Srednja vas v Bohinju Mountaineering Association). The hut was built by PD Bohinj-Srednja vas and ceremonially opened on 10 July 1955; it was enlarged and renovated in 1965. In 2010 a wastewater treatment plant was built at the hut with co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund under a public tender for the renovation and modernisation of mountain posts. Following a successful application by the association to a 2021 public tender for the support of mountain, sports and recreational infrastructure, reconstruction and energy-efficiency renovation works were carried out, co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The lodge is categorised as category 1 and holds the Green Key sustainability label, an international environmental award that promotes environmental awareness and care among accommodation and catering establishments committed to sustainable business practices. The dining area has 60 seats and a tap bar; there are 7 rooms (one suitable for disabled guests) equipped with bathrooms, offering 13 beds, plus 17 beds in shared dormitories with shared sanitary facilities. The dining area and rooms are heated with underfloor heating. The hut is electrified and connected to the water supply. The current hut keeper is Katica Mikelj. The lodge is a member of the Slovenian mountain hut network and serves hikers, mountaineers and visitors to the Pokljuka plateau.
