Overview

Unterberger Beteiligungs GmbH is the holding company of the Unterberger Gruppe, an Austrian family-owned business group headquartered in Kufstein, Tyrol. The group traces its origins to 1976, when Fritz and Helga Unterberger opened a BMW and Volvo dealership in Kufstein with five employees. Over the following decades the family expanded the automotive business across western Austria and southern Bavaria, adding multiple locations and multi-brand 'AUTOWELTEN' dealerships. Today Unterberger Automobile operates 21 locations in Tyrol, Salzburg, Vorarlberg, southern Bavaria and the Allgäu. Beyond automotive retail, the group has been active since 1980 in leasing, investments and real estate, with Unterberger Immobilien serving as its property arm in Tyrol. The group remains entirely in family hands and is characterised by strong cohesion and personal contact with customers. The holding company, Unterberger Beteiligungs GmbH, coordinates the group's participations and partner companies. Recent milestones include the 2026 takeover of five BMW & MINI and multi-brand dealerships from the Vogl Gruppe in Burghausen, Mühldorf and Waldkraiburg, the 2025 takeover of BMW Fritz Pfullendorf, the 2024 takeover of BMW Netzer Landeck, and a 2023 stake in BMW Thum Lienz. In 2016 the group celebrated its 40th anniversary and was awarded the Tyrolean coat of arms.

History

The history of the Unterberger Gruppe began in 1976 when Fritz and Helga Unterberger opened a BMW and Volvo dealership in Kufstein with five employees. The business grew steadily, and by 1980 the family had expanded into leasing, investments and real estate. Over the years, additional locations were added, and the group developed a successful multi-brand concept under the name AUTOWELTEN alongside its BMW and MINI dealerships. In 2014, Unterberger started BMW i sales in Innsbruck as one of only five BMW partners in Austria, and also in Lindau. The same year saw the establishment of Kitz Galleria GmbH. In 2016, the group celebrated its 40th anniversary and was awarded the Tyrolean coat of arms. Expansion continued with the acquisition of BMW Nenzing in Vorarlberg in 2017, the opening of Koasapark St. Johann in 2018, and the takeover of the traditional BMW Kaufmann house in Kaprun in 2019. In 2020, the group acquired BMW Bad Wiessee/Tegernsee in Bavaria. A stake in BMW Thum Lienz followed in 2023, and in 2024 the takeover of BMW Netzer Landeck. In 2025, Unterberger acquired BMW Fritz Pfullendorf, and in 2026 it took over five BMW & MINI and multi-brand dealerships from the Vogl Gruppe in Burghausen, Mühldorf and Waldkraiburg. Today, Unterberger Automobile operates 21 locations across Tyrol, Salzburg, Vorarlberg, southern Bavaria and the Allgäu. The group remains entirely family-owned and is characterised by strong cohesion and personal customer relationships.
