History

The institutional history of Universitas Tulang Bawang Lampung begins with the founding of a sponsoring foundation on 22 February 1975. Named Yayasan Pendidikan dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (YAPIPINDO), it was established by Drs. Jamaluddin HYM, Drs. Hudoyo Syuaib, Drs. Hasan Diah, Drs. Hamidi Tamin, Zainal Fanani, Drs. Masyono Nawawi and Juana Zulkarnain, and it created Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Administrasi Lampung (STIAL). STIAL's early academic development was marked by a series of ministerial decisions. On 6 June 1977, Decree No. 0195/U/1977 granted registered status to its Sarjana Muda program in Public Administration (Ilmu Administrasi Negara). By the 1986/1987 academic year, STISIPOL Lampung had three departments: Public Administration, Business Administration and Communication Science. During 1986–1987 the institution also cooperated with the Lembaga Pendidikan Komputer Indonesia Amerika (LPKIA) to run computer courses and provide practical facilities for students. The three departments grew and their accreditation status was progressively raised: Public Administration received "disamakan" (equalised) status under Decree No. 30/DIKTI/KEP/1993; Business Administration received equalised status under Decree No. 186/DIKTI/KEP/1994; and Communication Science received "diakui" (recognised) status under Decree No. 451/DIKTI/KEP/1993.
