Overview

Universitas Internasional Semen Indonesia (UISI) is a private higher-education institution located in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia. It was established by the Semen Indonesia Foundation (SMIF), the corporate social-responsibility and education arm of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, the country's largest cement producer. UISI traces its origins to Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Semen Indonesia (STiMSI), a management college founded on 11 May 2013, which offered programs in Management and Engineering Management. In 2015 STiMSI was transformed into a full university, and 11 May is still observed as UISI's Dies Natalis. The university operates from a campus within the PT Semen Indonesia complex on Jl. Veteran in Gresik, and it is a member of APERTI BUMN, an alliance of universities founded by Indonesian state-owned enterprises that also includes Universitas Pertamina, Universitas Telkom and Institut Teknologi PLN. UISI positions itself as an industry-oriented private university, aiming to be a center for learning and the development of science and technology that serves society. Its stated mission is to widen access to education through technological innovation, research and community service, with solutions relevant to Gresik and beyond. The university emphasizes a business-themed learning atmosphere supported by a network of corporate partners, creating synergy between the theoretical knowledge of the university and the practical experience of industry. It offers ten study programs grouped into three academic focuses: Economics and Business, Information and Creative Technology, and Industrial and Agro-industrial Technology. Specific programs include Accounting, Management, Sharia Economics, Engineering Management, Agro-industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Informatics, Information Systems and Visual Communication Design. Governance of UISI is led by a rector. Prof. Dr. Ing. Herman Sasongko served as rector from 2015 to 2020 and continued for a further term from 2020. The university has pursued quality assurance and accreditation, receiving a B accreditation in 2020 under BAN-PT decision No. 348/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/PT/V/2019, and in 2018 it was recognized by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education as a "Kampus Heritage Teknologi" with a themed learning system. More recently, UISI has been working toward an "Unggul" (Excellent) accreditation, engaging quality-assurance experts such as Prof. Sri Gunani Partiwi from ITS to strengthen its data-driven evaluation and quality assurance systems. As part of its industry links, UISI's Engineering Management program has explored collaboration with PT Barata Indonesia, and the university has signed research cooperation agreements with other institutions, including a 2019 MoA with Universitas Pertamina. It also runs public events such as the LogistiChamp national seminar, which in 2026 featured practitioners from BPBD Gresik discussing disaster logistics. UISI publishes tracer-study reports on its graduates and offers brochures for undergraduate and Master of Corporate Management programs. The university remains active in admissions and campus life, with events such as PKKMB SILO UISI 2026.

History

Universitas Internasional Semen Indonesia (UISI) began as Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Semen Indonesia (STiMSI), a management college established by the Semen Indonesia Foundation (SMIF) on 11 May 2013. STiMSI initially offered two study programs, Management and Engineering Management, and operated for about two years. The date of STiMSI's founding, 11 May, was later adopted as UISI's Dies Natalis. In August 2014, the Director General of Higher Education, Djoko Santoso, granted the principle permit for the establishment of UISI to Dwi Soetjipto, then President Director of Semen Indonesia, in Jakarta. The formal establishment permit, numbered 502/E/O/2014, was signed on 16 October 2014 by Patdono Suwignjo, Secretary of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture. With this permit, UISI became the first higher-education institution founded by the Semen Indonesia Foundation. In 2015, STiMSI was transformed into UISI, and Prof. Dr. Ing. Herman Sasongko became rector, a position he continued to hold in the 2020– period. UISI describes its purpose as providing access to education through technological innovation, research and community service, as a concrete manifestation of Semen Indonesia's concern for the younger generation in the fields of education and technology. The university aims to create synergy between Semen Indonesia and UISI through quality resource management and knowledge sharing between university theory and industrial practice. Its business-themed learning atmosphere is supported by a network of corporate partners intended to enhance students' potential as competitive future human resources. UISI operates a campus in the PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk complex on Jl. Veteran, Gresik, East Java. It is a member of APERTI BUMN, the alliance of universities under the auspices of Indonesian state-owned enterprises, together with seven other institutions including Universitas Pertamina, Universitas Telkom and Institut Teknologi PLN. Since its founding, UISI has offered ten study programs across three academic focuses: Economics and Business, Information and Creative Technology, and Industrial and Agro-industrial Technology. The programs are Accounting, Management, Sharia Economics, Engineering Management, Agro-industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Informatics, Information Systems and Visual Communication Design. In terms of recognition, UISI received a B accreditation in 2020 based on BAN-PT decision No. 348/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/PT/V/2019. On 28 November 2018, it was awarded the title of "Kampus Heritage Teknologi" with a themed learning system by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. The university has continued to develop its quality assurance, working with experts such as Prof. Sri Gunani Partiwi from ITS to prepare for an "Unggul" (Excellent) accreditation. It also maintains industry and inter-university links, including a 2019 research MoA with Universitas Pertamina and exploratory collaboration between its Engineering Management program and PT Barata Indonesia. UISI publishes tracer study reports on its graduates and offers undergraduate and Master of Corporate Management brochures, while hosting events such as the LogistiChamp national seminar and PKKMB SILO UISI 2026.
