History

Universitas Informatika dan Bisnis Indonesia (UNIBI) was formed through the merger of two existing institutions: Politeknik Ganesha Bandung and Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi (STIE) Pelita Nusantara. The merger was authorized by Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 70/D/O/2007, dated 24 May 2007. Politeknik Ganesha Bandung had been established earlier by Decree of the Minister of National Education No. 04/D/O/2000 on 5 January 2000. STIE Pelita Nusantara was founded in 1999 by Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 132/D/O/1999. The consolidation of these two schools created UNIBI as a new private university in Bandung, West Java. UNIBI was founded with the aim of producing young entrepreneurs and meeting the demand for professional associate and bachelor graduates with an entrepreneurial spirit in technology, communication, art, psychology, and business. It describes itself as Indonesia's first entrepreneurship-oriented university, having designed its curriculum and teaching methods specifically around entrepreneurship courses, up-to-date IT insights, business opportunities, and early instillation of the entrepreneurial spirit. The university facilitates internationally recognized IT certification to guarantee that its graduates become entrepreneurial professionals or successful young entrepreneurs. It offers both regular and employee classes to accommodate students who are working. Over time, UNIBI has organized its academic offerings into four faculties: the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Communication and Design, the Faculty of Technology and Informatics, and the Faculty of Psychology. The institution is led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Bob Foster, M.M., and continues to operate as a private higher education provider in Bandung.
