Overview

The Universidad Tecnológica de Culiacán (UTC) is a public higher-education institution located in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. It is a decentralized public organism of the Government of the State of Sinaloa and belongs to the Technological Higher Education Subsystem of the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP). The university was created in September 2012 to broaden and diversify the educational offering in Sinaloa, introducing the UNESCO-recognized Técnico Superior Universitario (TSU) model and level 5A studies (engineering and bachelor's degrees) to the state for the first time, aligned with the national development plan. UTC began operations in borrowed facilities — the evening shift of Secundaria Nueva Creación — before moving to its own campus, where students are now served in the morning shift. On 3 July 2013, its creation decree was published in the official newspaper El Estado de Sinaloa, formally constituting it as a decentralized public organism with its own legal personality and assets. The institution observes Mexican and Sinaloan constitutional and legal frameworks, as well as guidelines from the SEP and the General Coordination of Technological and Polytechnic Universities. Academically, UTC offers programs including Sustainable and Protected Agriculture Engineering, Energy and Sustainable Development Engineering, Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, Information Technologies and Digital Innovation Engineering, Automotive Systems Engineering, a bachelor's in Gastronomy, a bachelor's in Business and Marketing, a specialty in Water Management and Handling, and a master's in Sustainable and Precision Agriculture. The university promotes an academic environment fostering innovation and personal development, with admissions, scholarships, student life, faculty, and degree-completion services, and a BIS educational option. Its official website is available in Spanish and English.

History

The Universidad Tecnológica de Culiacán was born in September 2012 in the city and municipality of Culiacán, Sinaloa, with the aim of increasing and diversifying the educational offering in the state and providing a new vision of higher education in the country. It was the first institution in Sinaloa to implement the UNESCO-recognized model of Técnico Superior Universitario (TSU) and level 5A studies (engineering and bachelor's degrees), in line with the needs established in the National Development Plan 2007–2012. The university began by providing services in borrowed facilities — the evening shift of Secundaria Nueva Creación, five minutes from where its own campus now stands — later moving to its own installations and changing to a morning shift for student services. On 3 July 2013, the creation decree was published in the official newspaper El Estado de Sinaloa, constituting UTC as a decentralized public organism of the Government of the State of Sinaloa, with its own legal personality and assets. As a public entity, it observes and complies with the provisions of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, the Political Constitution of the State of Sinaloa, and the laws emanating from them, as well as agreements, decrees, regulations, circulars, and guidelines issued by the Secretaría de Educación Pública y Cultura in the state and the General Coordination of Technological and Polytechnic Universities, guided by the State Development Plan 2011–2016, which includes human development as one of its axes. Over the years, UTC has expanded its academic portfolio to include engineering programs in sustainable and protected agriculture, energy and sustainable development, environmental and sustainability, information technologies and digital innovation, and automotive systems, as well as bachelor's degrees in gastronomy and in business and marketing, a specialty in water management and handling, and a master's in sustainable and precision agriculture. The university continues to operate as a public institution committed to quality education, innovation, and student development.
