Overview
Universidad Cristiana de Honduras (UCRISH) is a private, autonomous Christian institution of higher education headquartered in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, within the facilities of the Ministerio Internacional La Cosecha. It was founded in 2004 by the Apóstol Misael Argeñal through the Fundación Honduras para Cristo, and its legal sponsorship is currently provided by the Fundación Mercy following a 2023 license session. The university was authorized by the Consejo de Educación Superior (Higher Education Council) in August 2004 and began academic operations in January 2005 with 420 students. UCRISH describes its educational model as constructivist, built on three pillars: faith, science and service. Its motto, "Fidus ab Sapientia" (Faithful from wisdom), reflects its mission to form competent, ethical professionals with faith in God who can transform Honduras's spiritual, social, cultural and economic reality. The university promotes a humanist and transformative vision committed to academic excellence, innovation and sustainability, aiming to develop leaders who act with integrity, justice, equity, solidarity and ethical leadership. Academically, UCRISH offers 23 active programs across six academic levels: engineering, bachelor's degrees (licenciaturas), university technical degrees, master's degrees, specialties and diplomas. Initial programs included Ingeniería en Sistemas Computacionales, Ingeniería Industrial, Mercadotecnia, Administración de Empresas, Teología, Derecho and Psicología. The university operates a national network of 10 active campuses and has graduated over 5,000 students in its more than 22 years of operation. UCRISH maintains a scholarship program designed to make higher education accessible regardless of economic circumstances, offering economic scholarships based on demonstrated need and academic scholarships recognizing high performance, excellence and consistency. Scholarship recipients must maintain an 80% grade index, pass all subjects, provide service to the university when required, and enroll in at least four classes per academic period. The university is governed by a rector and a team of vice-rectors and directors overseeing academic, administrative and general affairs. Its institutional identity emphasizes service vocation, with education viewed as a calling to serve Honduran society.
History
The Universidad Cristiana de Honduras (UCRISH) was born from a clear vision: to form upright, competent professionals committed to the spiritual and social development of Honduras. It was founded by the Apóstol Misael Argeñal through the Fundación Honduras para Cristo. The institution emerged in a context where, since the 1950s, private universities had been authorized to open in Honduras, and UCRISH was created as a higher education institution aimed at contributing to Honduran society's development through the formation of human resources with high academic preparation and strong moral, civic, cultural and spiritual values. On 13 August 2004, the Consejo Superior Universitario de Honduras (Higher University Council) approved UCRISH through resolution 126773. In August 2004, the Consejo de Educación Superior authorized UCRISH as a university. Academic operations began in January 2005 with 420 students in bachelor's degree programs. The first programs offered were Ingeniería en Sistemas Computacionales, Ingeniería Industrial, Mercadotecnia, Administración de Empresas, Teología, Derecho and Psicología. Subsequently, additional engineering programs were added. Initially, the university dedicated itself to training professionals in computer systems engineering, marketing, business administration and theology, along with technical higher degrees in informatics, advertising and design, human resources administration and pastoral orientation. Over time, the academic offering expanded to include law, psychology, industrial engineering and a technical degree in clinical laboratory, as well as various diplomas. By 2015, UCRISH had seven associated centers throughout the country. As of its more than 22 years of operation, it operates a national network of 10 active campuses and has graduated over 5,000 students. The entity promoting and creating UCRISH was the Fundación Honduras para Cristo. Currently, its legal sponsorship is provided by the Fundación Mercy through a license session (2023) with legal personality granted by the Secretaría de Educación Pública de Honduras. The university is dedicated to developing the three great dimensions of university academic work: research, outreach linked to society, and teaching. Its institutional identity is built on a constructivist educational model where faith, science and service are not separate elements but the three pillars supporting every career, classroom and institutional project. As a private, Christian and nationally chartered university, UCRISH assumes education as a service vocation, promoting a humanist and transformative vision committed to academic excellence, innovation and sustainability, forming leaders who act with integrity, justice, equity, solidarity and ethical leadership.
