It is a member institution of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas system, the public university network of the state of Tamaulipas. The campus began operations on 4 October 1965 in the building of the Manuel Ávila Camacho secondary school, with an initial intake of 28 students and 10 teachers. It later moved to a building provided by the Cooperativa de Ejidatarios y Obreros del Ingenio Mante, S.C.L. (the former hospital), before the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas granted it its current facilities in March 1967; the academic unit was consolidated in September 1968. The campus offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across several fields. Its engineering programs include Ingeniero Agrónomo, Ingeniero Bioquímico Industrial, and Ingeniero en Sistemas Computacionales. Its undergraduate degrees include Contador Público, Licenciatura en Enfermería, and Licenciatura en Nutrición y Salud Integral. At the postgraduate level it offers a Maestría en Docencia and a Maestría en Tecnología Agroalimentaria. In 2006, responding to regional demand for health professionals, the campus approved a new Licenciatura en Enfermería, which began classes in August 2007; the nursing faculty initially shared the university's facilities and in 2010 moved to an independent building after the incorporation of a private nursing school. Beyond academics, UAMM offers extracurricular and sports activities including American football, music (rondalla), gymnastics, and folk dance. As a public higher-education institution, it operates under the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas and serves students from Ciudad Mante and the surrounding region.

History

The Unidad Académica Multidisciplinaria Mante (UAMM) began its activities on 4 October 1965 in the building of the Manuel Ávila Camacho secondary school, with an initial intake of 28 students and 10 teachers. It later relocated to a building granted by the Cooperativa de Ejidatarios y Obreros del Ingenio Mante, S.C.L. (the former hospital). A series of problems threatened to destroy this effort, but in March 1967 the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas granted the campus its current facilities, and in September 1968 what is now the academic unit was consolidated. At the beginning of the 2000s, the educational plans offered at the campus were updated and restructured: the Traditional Curricular Model changed to the Flexible Curricular Model MISIÓN XXI, and the degree names changed from Licenciado en Contaduría e Informática to Contador Público and from Ingeniero en Alimentos to Ingeniero Bioquímico Industrial. In 2005, the MILLENIUM III Flexible Curricular Model was launched, again updating the study plans and programs of the university's academic offer while respecting SEP agreements. In 2006, due to strong demand for professionals in the health area in the city and the region, the opening of a new academic program was approved: the Licenciatura en Enfermería, which began courses in August 2007. Initially the nursing faculty was housed in the same facilities as the university, but in 2010, thanks to the incorporation of the private nursing school, the site moved to an independent building.
