Overview

Universidad Anáhuac Xalapa is one of the two campuses of Universidad Anáhuac Veracruz, alongside the Córdoba-Orizaba campus. It is located in Xalapa-Enríquez, the capital of the Mexican state of Veracruz, and is a member of the Red de Universidades Anáhuac (Anáhuac University Network), a private Catholic higher-education system associated with the Legionarios de Cristo (Legionaries of Christ). The network traces its origins to the founding of the first Anáhuac university in Mexico City in the late 1960s, an initiative led by Father Marcial Maciel and a group of Mexican businessmen. Over the following decades, the Anáhuac model expanded into a network of universities across Mexico and beyond, and the Xalapa campus became part of this system. The Xalapa campus offers a broad range of undergraduate programs spanning health sciences, engineering, business, law, communication, design, and the social sciences. Its degree portfolio includes Médico Cirujano, Terapia Física y Rehabilitación, Nutrición, Derecho, Arquitectura, Comunicación, Psicología, Turismo Internacional, and various engineering disciplines such as Ingeniería Biomédica, Ingeniería Mecatrónica, Ingeniería Química, and Ingeniería del Petróleo y Energías Renovables. Business-oriented degrees include Dirección y Administración de Empresas, Dirección Financiera, Finanzas y Contaduría Pública, Negocios Internacionales, Mercadotecnia Estratégica, and a Licenciatura Ejecutiva en Administración de Negocios. Creative and digital programs include Diseño Multimedia, Diseño Gráfico, Ingeniería en Animación Digital, and Dirección de Empresas de Entretenimiento. As part of the Anáhuac network, the Xalapa campus follows a shared educational model that emphasizes integral formation (formación integral) — combining academic, professional, ethical, and humanistic education. In 2004, the curricula of common degree programs between Universidad Anáhuac Xalapa and other Legion universities were standardized to allow automatic student transfer across the network. The campus operates under the broader Universidad Anáhuac Veracruz structure, which itself belongs to an international educational system present in 18 countries and serving more than 100,000 students from preschool to postgraduate levels, including institutions such as Universidad Interamericana para el Desarrollo and the Instituto Superior de Ciencias para la Familia. The university is privately owned and affiliated with the Legionarios de Cristo. It does not appear on public stock exchanges and operates as a non-profit or private educational institution within the Anáhuac network. Its official website is anahuac.mx/xalapa, where prospective students can find information on admissions, academic programs, and campus life. The campus is situated in Xalapa-Enríquez, a city known for its cultural and educational institutions in eastern Mexico.

History

The history of Universidad Anáhuac Xalapa is tied to the broader expansion of the Anáhuac educational model. In 1959, Father Marcial Maciel, founder of the Legionarios de Cristo, considered creating a university and began searching for land to build what would become the first university of the Legion: Universidad Anáhuac. In 1963, a group of Mexican businessmen, encouraged and coordinated by Marcial Maciel, L.C., created the patronato "Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores S.C." Finally, on June 4, 1968, the campus of Universidad Anáhuac (del norte) was officially inaugurated in Lomas Anáhuac in Interlomas. From the consolidation of this first university, efforts to continue offering integral formation to a growing number of university students led to the creation of the Red de Universidades Anáhuac. The Red de Universidades Anáhuac belongs to an international educational system present in 18 countries and serving more than 100,000 students from preschool to postgraduate levels. This system includes institutions such as Universidad Interamericana para el Desarrollo with 44 locations in Mexico and the Instituto Superior de Ciencias para la Familia. The Xalapa campus became part of this network, operating as one of the two campuses of Universidad Anáhuac Veracruz, alongside the Córdoba-Orizaba campus. During 2004, the curricula of common degree programs between Universidad Anáhuac Xalapa and the rest of the Legion universities were standardized by 100%. This created a more homogeneous plan to allow automatic student transfer among all Legion universities. The campus has continued to offer a wide range of undergraduate programs, including medicine, engineering, business, law, communication, design, and social sciences, in line with the network's emphasis on integral formation.
