Overview
The Union Betriebs-Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (UBG) is the commercial enterprise of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). It was founded in December 1959 under the name Presse- und Informationsdienste der CDU Deutschlands – Verlagsgesellschaft mbH and entered in the commercial register in Bonn on 27 January 1960. Its original purpose was to handle publishing activities for party publications and to participate in the general market. In 1968 it was renamed Union Betriebs-Gesellschaft mbH. Over the decades it expanded into a professional offset printing operation and, through a merger with Dico-Soft GmbH effective 1 January 1992, added data centre operations and IT services. After the CDU moved to Berlin, UBG relocated its registered office to Rheinbach in 1999, from where it provides nationwide services, and it maintains a branch in Berlin. Today UBG operates as a full-service agency and IT provider for political and institutional clients. Its service portfolio includes IT infrastructure and the CDU-Cloud, agency services such as print and online design, print management, magazine publishing and lettershop, digital products including websites and app development, data protection services, data centre operations, and complete administration of party offices (elections, membership and donation management, accounting). It also runs a creative portal offering customizable design templates. The company publishes the WirtschaftsBild, a Mittelstand magazine co-founded by Ludwig Erhard in 1949, the municipal publication rathausconsult, and Union, the CDU membership magazine. UBG is a private limited liability company owned by the CDU and is not listed on any stock exchange.
History
The Union Betriebs-Gesellschaft (UBG) was founded in December 1959 as Presse- und Informationsdienste der CDU Deutschlands – Verlagsgesellschaft mbH and was entered in the commercial register at the Amtsgericht Bonn on 27 January 1960. Its task was to take over publishing activities for party publications and to participate in the general market. In 1968 the company was renamed Union Betriebs-Gesellschaft mbH. Over four decades a number of subsidiaries were founded and later merged into UBG or dissolved. Until the CDU moved to Berlin, UBG had its registered office in Bonn. In the publishing division, UBG produces the WirtschaftsBild, a Mittelstand magazine co-founded by Ludwig Erhard in 1949, the municipal publication rathausconsult, and Union, the CDU membership magazine.
