Overview
TXT e-solutions is an Italian software development and consulting company headquartered in Milan. Established in 1989, the company developed from a software vendor focused on production planning and scheduling into a multi-sector technology group providing specialist applications, engineering services, digital transformation support, and research and development. Its historical portfolio has included supply-chain planning, demand management, sales and operations planning, product data management, product-lifecycle support, multimedia content management, and digital manufacturing solutions. The company’s activities are concentrated in technically demanding industries where software must support complex products, regulated processes, distributed operations, or large-scale planning requirements. Its industry coverage includes aerospace and aviation, defense, transportation, industrial manufacturing, government, and fintech. This has given TXT a dual profile: it has supplied packaged and configurable software products while also undertaking engineering, integration, consulting, and custom development projects. During the 1990s, TXT expanded its software offering beyond production planning and scheduling and created an early supply-chain-management suite. In the following decade it broadened the portfolio to demand management, sales and operations planning, product data management, mobile and multimedia applications, and business-intelligence-enabled supply-chain planning. The company also developed relationships with major technology providers and participated in research programs in Italy and internationally. TXT reorganized its activities in 2007 into three divisions: TXT PERFORM, focused on supply-chain and retail planning software; TXT POLYMEDIA, focused on multimedia and digital-content technology; and TXT NEXT, focused on engineering and professional services. The Polymedia business was sold to Kit Digital in 2011. In 2017, TXT completed the sale of the TXT Retail division, formerly associated with TXT PERFORM, to Aptos, a transaction that further emphasized the group’s engineering and industry-solutions activities. TXT e-solutions S.p.A. has been listed on the Italian stock exchange since July 2000, trading under the symbol TXT.MI and historically included in the STAR segment. The group operates through subsidiaries and activities in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Its present identity is therefore that of an internationally active specialist technology provider rather than a mass-market software brand, with particular depth in aerospace, defense, transportation, industrial systems, and other high-complexity environments.
History
TXT e-solutions was founded in Italy in 1989 as a software company focused on operational planning and industrial information systems. Its early products addressed production planning and scheduling, areas in which manufacturers needed to coordinate capacity, materials, orders, and delivery commitments. During the 1990s, the company expanded this work into supply-chain management and developed its first software suite for broader supply-chain processes. The company entered the 2000s with a widening enterprise-software portfolio. In 2000 it established subsidiaries or international operations associated with France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany. That same year, TXT e-solutions S.p.A. was admitted to the Italian stock market, where it has traded under TXT.MI since July 2000. In 2002, the company introduced solutions for supply-chain management, demand management, and sales and operations planning. These products were intended to help businesses align forecasts, inventory, purchasing, production, and commercial plans. In 2003, TXT added product data-management software, extending its activities from operational planning into the information structures used to manage products and their associated data. Further releases followed in 2004, including additional demand and supply-chain-management and sales-and-operations-planning products. TXT also introduced a mobile polymedia platform, reflecting the company’s interest in digital content and mobile delivery alongside its industrial software activities. In 2006, it worked with Microsoft through the Industry Builder Initiative, addressing supply-chain-planning requirements in consumer-driven industries. This relationship illustrated the company’s approach of combining its domain-specific applications with broader technology ecosystems. In 2007, TXT reorganized into three divisions. TXT PERFORM concentrated on planning and performance-management applications, including supply-chain and later retail-oriented solutions. TXT POLYMEDIA represented the company’s multimedia and digital-content activities. TXT NEXT focused on engineering, consulting, and technology services. The divisional structure made the group’s varied activities more distinct while preserving a common corporate identity. In 2008, the company released TXTPERFORM2008, a supply-chain-planning suite incorporating business-intelligence functionality. It also launched Media in a Box, a multimedia content-management platform. In subsequent years, subsidiaries introduced software for managing product lifecycles and a digital-manufacturing service line aimed specifically at aerospace. These developments increased the importance of engineering and industry-specific services within the group. TXT later simplified its portfolio. In 2011, the Polymedia business was sold to Kit Digital, and the group identified TXT PERFORM and TXT NEXT as its principal strategic areas. On 2 October 2017, TXT completed the sale of the TXT Retail division to Aptos, Inc., a company formerly associated with Epicor. The transaction removed the retail software activity from TXT’s portfolio and reinforced its orientation toward engineering, aerospace, defense, transportation, industrial, government, and fintech applications. TXT’s research and development teams have participated in Italian and international research programs. The company has maintained an international operating footprint through subsidiaries and activities in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Its history is consequently marked by portfolio expansion, divisional specialization, selective divestments, and a gradual concentration on software engineering and consulting for technically complex sectors.
