TVP Historia 2

TVP Historia 2 is a Polish history-focused television channel operated by Telewizja Polska (TVP), the country's state-owned public broadcaster. It is a companion service to TVP Historia, the main history channel that TVP launched on 3 May 2007. TVP Historia 2 is a companion channel to TVP Historia, the history channel of Polish public broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP). TVP Historia began broadcasting on 3 May 2007, following an application for a licence submitted to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) on 2 August 2006. On 27 February 2023 the channel began broadcasting in HD, and on 1 June 2023 its signal was made available to watch free of charge on the TVP VOD website and app. In January 2011 the TVP management began a procedure to transform the channel into TVP Dokument, which would have required a licence change by KRRiT. The TVP supervisory board agreed to initiate the procedure and to apply to KRRiT. The process was intended to change the station's offer from historical to general documentary, motivated by low viewing figures for TVP Historia, but after protests from Solidarity the idea was abandoned and TVP Dokument was launched as a separate channel instead. The channel has had several directors: Artur Dmochowski (May 2007–March 2009), Tadeusz Doroszuk (March 2009–January 2016), Piotr Gursztyn (15 January–30 November 2016), Stanisław Królak (1 December 2016–15 January 2017) and Piotr Legutko (from January 2017).
