TV9 Nusantara is an Indonesian local television network based in Surabaya, East Java. It is owned by PT Dakwah Inti Media, a company affiliated with Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU East Java), and was launched on 31 January 2010 by Soekarwo as part of the 84th anniversary celebration of Nahdlatul Ulama. The station broadcasts on channel 42 UHF (now channel 44 UHF) and holds a permanent broadcasting permit from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. It positions itself as a traditional Muslim television station with the tagline "Santun Menyejukkan" (polite and calming), offering religious, news, and entertainment programs aligned with Islamic values and local wisdom. Its flagship programs include "Kopi Darmo" (a talk show on financial independence, technology, and Islamic lifestyle) and "Jurnal 9" (a news program based on the principle of journalism for the common good). TV9 Nusantara is available on digital terrestrial, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as via live streaming and mobile apps.
History
TV9 Nusantara traces its origins to Pasuruan Televisi (Pas TV), a local television station founded by Misbahul Munir and managed by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Pasuruan. Pas TV began broadcasting in August 2007 on channel 48 UHF, with initial broadcast hours from 06:00 to 12:00 and 17:30 to 21:00 WIB. It applied for a broadcasting permit to the East Java KPID in late 2007. On 11 September 2007, Pas TV moved to channel 42 UHF because channel 48 UHF was already used by Batu TV in Batu City. Although based in Pasuruan, Pas TV could also be enjoyed in Surabaya and surrounding areas with programs based on local information and entertainment, though it also had religious programs. Three years later, TV9 Nusantara began broadcasting as a replacement for Pas TV on 31 January 2010. This occurred because Pasuruan and Surabaya were still in the same broadcast service area, so policymakers at the time suggested that Pas TV be moved to Surabaya and made a television station owned by PWNU East Java. TV9 was launched by Soekarwo as part of the 84th anniversary celebration of Nahdlatul Ulama. In its development, TV9 transformed into a television station with a private/commercial character. It obtained a principle broadcasting permit dated 7 July 2009 and a permanent broadcasting permit dated 23 July 2012 from the Minister of Communication and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia to broadcast as a local private broadcasting institution in Surabaya/East Java. It officially broadcast in the Gerbangkertosusila region starting in 2010. The presence of TV9 was inseparable from the emergence of the phenomenon of Jakarta private television stations networking in the regions. These private television stations were considered unable to accommodate the dakwah interests of NU as the largest socio-religious organization and the Muslim community. Additionally, religious content broadcast by Jakarta television stations was not friendly to the worship practices of nahdliyin citizens. To preserve this tradition, NU created TV9 as a medium that provides information and entertainment around Muslim traditions. The presentation of religious programs was made to maintain and cultivate Muslim traditions, especially for the Surabaya area, where TV9 is located. Islamic programs under the banner of dakwah aim to ensure that Islamic religious messages can be absorbed by viewers and hoped that the messages packaged in the form of programs can be practiced by the community. The programs are packaged as attractively as possible without losing the identity of the Muslim tradition presented by TV9. With the theme "santun menyejukkan" (polite and calming), TV9 has become the best religious television in Indonesia. In 2015, the logo was simplified by removing four lines inside it.
