TV Südbaden

TV Südbaden was a regional television channel serving the Südbaden region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, based in Freiburg im Breisgau. It was operated by Funkhaus Freiburg GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of Neue Welle Rundfunk-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG of Nuremberg (Funkhaus Nürnberg). The channel launched on 15 September 2001 under the name FR TV and was renamed TV Südbaden following a programme relaunch in May 2003. It offered a full regional television service for Südbaden and worked closely in the Funkhaus Freiburg with the local radio station baden.fm. At its peak, according to media data analysis, TV Südbaden reached an average of about 500,000 viewers in Südbaden. Broadcasting ceased on 16 January 2015 for financial reasons; the operator cited low cable coverage in Südbaden and consequently insufficient penetration to operate cost-effectively. In spring 2017, Baden TV took over the broadcast area of TV Südbaden, covering the city and districts of Freiburg, Emmendingen, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Ortenaukreis, Lörrach and Waldshut.
