Overview
Tursa was a British independent record label founded in 1990 by musician Tony Wakeford, formerly a member of Death in June and Sol Invictus. Based in London, the label was created primarily to release Wakeford's own work as well as music by other artists associated with the neofolk and dark folk scenes. Its releases were distributed internationally by World Serpent Distribution, later by Dark Vinyl in Europe and Cold Spring in North America and the United Kingdom. Notable releases from the late 1990s and early 2000s include 11 by Orchestre Noir (1998), Eve (2001) and Thrones (2002) by Sol Invictus. In July 2007 the label renewed a partnership with Reeve Malka, an Israeli-American musician and producer. The label's catalogue included Orchestre Noir, The Triple Tree, Zunroyz, The Wardrobe, Tony Wakeford, Andrew King, Susan Mathews and Autumn Grieve. Since the early 2010s the label has shown no signs of activity. In a 2020 interview, when asked if he was proud of his Tursa label, Wakeford replied: 'I don't really know what I think about it. It seems so long ago. There were some very good releases, but I won't miss the joy of putting out a compilation.'
