Overview

Tuja Zeitarbeit GmbH was a Germany-wide temporary employment and staffing company headquartered in Düsseldorf. It was founded in 1992 by Peter Jackwerth in Ingolstadt and grew through acquisitions and mergers into one of the largest staffing providers in Germany. The company offered temporary work (Zeitarbeit), permanent placement (Personalvermittlung), and on-site management services. By 2010 it employed around 15,000 people across approximately 120 branches and generated revenue of €398 million, which would have made it the sixth-largest staffing company in Germany at the time. Tuja expanded into Switzerland and Austria in 2004 under the ownership of Odewald & Cie, and was later owned by Barclays Private Equity from 2006 to mid-2007. In 2007, the Adecco Group acquired Tuja Zeitarbeit along with its sister brands Boetronic Personalmanagement and Service Personaldienstleistungen for a total of €800 million. After the acquisition, foreign activities were discontinued and the companies were bundled under Tuja Holding. In 2010, the Ingolstadt administrative headquarters was dissolved and tasks were taken over in Münster and within the group by sister company DIS. On 1 May 2018, Tuja Zeitarbeit GmbH was merged into Adecco Personaldienstleistungen GmbH, ending its existence as a separate brand.

History

Tuja Zeitarbeit was founded in 1992 by Peter Jackwerth in Ingolstadt, Germany. In 1998, AHL Service Inc., based in Atlanta, acquired a portion of the shares. The company grew rapidly through numerous mergers and acquisitions, incorporating several staffing firms, some of which had been in the market since 1979. From 2001, following extensive mergers, the company operated Germany-wide under the name Tuja. Two years later, the centralization of all administrative tasks at the Ingolstadt headquarters was completed. In 2004, the investment firm Odewald & Cie took over the company, and simultaneously Tuja expanded into Switzerland and Austria. From 2006 to mid-2007, Barclays Private Equity was the owner. In 2007, ownership changed again: the Adecco Group acquired Tuja Zeitarbeit together with its sister brands Boetronic Personalmanagement and Service Personaldienstleistungen for a total of €800 million. Foreign activities were subsequently discontinued, and the companies were bundled under Tuja Holding. In 2010, the administrative headquarters in Ingolstadt was dissolved, and its functions were transferred to Münster and within the group to the sister company DIS. In 2010, Tuja Zeitarbeit employed an average of around 15,000 people in approximately 120 branches, and the Tuja Group generated revenue of €398 million, which would have made it the sixth-largest staffing company in Germany at the time. On 1 May 2018, Tuja Zeitarbeit GmbH was merged into Adecco Personaldienstleistungen GmbH, ceasing to exist as a separate legal entity and brand.
