Overview
Tria Technologies is a developer and manufacturer of embedded computing solutions headquartered in Stutensee, near Karlsruhe, Germany. The company designs and builds computer-on-modules, carrier boards and complete systems for industrial OEM customers in sectors such as medical technology, industrial automation, transportation and agriculture. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Avnet, Inc., the global technology distributor listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker AVT. Tria was launched in 2024 as a subsidiary of Avnet, uniting decades of design and manufacturing expertise under a single global brand. It was formerly known as MSC Technologies, whose roots reach back to 1979, when the MSC and Gleichmann Electronics group was founded in Germany as a distributor of electronic components. Over the following decades the MSC Gleichmann Group grew into one of Europe's leading providers of embedded computing and display solutions, with a focus on automotive, industrial automation, telecommunications and medical technology. Avnet acquired a majority stake in MSC Investoren GmbH in October 2013 and completed the full acquisition on 30 December 2013; the operating companies MSC Vertriebs GmbH and Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH were merged into MSC Technologies GmbH, based in Stutensee, on 1 July 2014. In March 2018 Avnet combined the EMEA operations of Avnet Integrated and MSC Technologies to create a unified offering for embedded boards, display solutions and systems. In July 2024 Avnet founded the Tria Technologies subsidiary and the associated Tria product brand to bundle all embedded computing development and manufacturing activities under one global brand. Tria describes itself as a world leader in the design and manufacture of embedded computing for OEMs, offering a broad range of off-the-shelf modules through to fully customized systems. Its portfolio spans compute modules, single-board computers (SBCs), systems and HMI, and software. The company develops and manufactures standard and custom embedded compute modules in the COM Express, SMARC and OSM (Open Standard Module) form factors, based on processors from Intel, NXP, Qualcomm, AMD and Renesas. Beyond modules, the portfolio includes carrier boards and complete systems including HMI solutions (displays, touch, compute module). Tria positions itself around precision design, European manufacturing, the largest compute module portfolio, world-class partners and full customization, and it supports customers from design to delivery with technology campuses across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Tria is an official partner of many CPU and silicon providers, including Intel, NXP, Renesas, Qualcomm and AMD, and is a member of the leading modular computing design organizations SGeT and PICMG, contributing to the SMARC, OSM, COM Express and COM-HPC design standards. It also works with software and operating system vendors such as Microsoft, Linux and Android. As part of the Avnet family, Tria leverages a global sales network and logistics infrastructure to deliver worldwide. Its manufacturing footprint includes the Stutensee site, which was expanded from six to nine production lines, three lines in Malta, and system manufacturing at the Eschbach site opened in 2023.
History
The roots of Tria Technologies reach back to 1979, when the MSC and Gleichmann Electronics group was founded in Germany as a distributor of electronic components. Over the following decades the MSC Gleichmann Group developed into one of the leading providers of embedded computing and display solutions in Europe, with focuses on automotive, industrial automation, telecommunications and medical technology. In the calendar year 2012 MSC generated revenue of more than 450 million US dollars, with embedded computing technologies accounting for almost 50 percent of revenue. In October 2013 Avnet, Inc. acquired a majority stake in MSC Investoren GmbH; the full acquisition followed on 30 December 2013. The companies MSC Vertriebs GmbH and Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH were merged into MSC Technologies GmbH, based in Stutensee, on 1 July 2014. In March 2018 the business areas of Avnet Integrated and MSC Technologies in the EMEA region were combined to create a unified offering for embedded boards, display solutions and systems. In July 2024 Avnet founded the Tria Technologies subsidiary and the associated Tria product brand to bundle all activities in embedded computer development and manufacturing under one global brand. Phil Gallagher, CEO of Avnet, stated that more and more OEMs are outsourcing complex manufacturing processes and moving to a modular approach. In an interview with the trade magazine Elektroniknet in September 2024, Thomas Staudinger, President of Avnet Embedded Solutions, explained that the Stutensee manufacturing site was expanded from six to nine production lines. In addition, there are three lines at the Malta site and system manufacturing at the Eschbach site opened in 2023. Tria Technologies designs, creates and delivers embedded compute solutions for OEMs. Formerly MSC Technologies, it launched in 2024 as a subsidiary of Avnet, uniting decades of design and manufacturing expertise under a single global brand. Its mission is to simplify development, reduce risk and accelerate time to market by leveraging platform technologies, strategic partnerships and advanced manufacturing capabilities. The company collaborates closely with OEMs and industry leaders to streamline product design, accelerate global launches and deliver scalable, tailored solutions. With technology campuses across the Americas, Europe and Asia, Tria's experts provide dedicated support from prototyping to mass production. As part of the Avnet family, Tria leverages a global sales network and logistics infrastructure to ensure efficient worldwide delivery.
