Overview
TRASH-UP!! RECORDS is a Japanese record label and merchandiser that grew out of the trash-culture magazine TRASH-UP!!. The magazine was first published in 2008, initially by TMV Production and later by Trash-Up Inc., and it built a reputation for covering horror films, underground comics and, from 2013, female idols. In September 2015 the operation announced the launch of TRASH-UP!! RECORDS as a management and music label mainly for female idols, with its first two singles released on 30 September 2015. The label is closely associated with the Tokyo live scene, having run the Kagurazaka TRASH-UP!! venue collaboration and organised idol events and art exhibitions. Its roster has included SAKA-SAMA, formed in 2016 as the label's first produced idol group, innes, Dadadams and the limited unit Wakusei Tsushinsha. TRASH-UP!! RECORDS also collaborates with the vinyl-only label Narisu Records on the IDOL VINYL 45 series. The label remains active, announcing new releases and member auditions through its official website.
History
TRASH-UP!! began as a magazine first published in 2008, initially issued by TMV Production up to volume 3 and then by Trash-Up Inc. from volume 4. It was positioned as Japan's only trash-culture magazine, covering idols, films and comics, and was edited by Kuzuyama Kuzuo, who had previously run the horror-film DVD label TRASH MOUNTAIN VIDEO. The magazine was distributed through a limited number of bookstores and CD shops before moving to JRC handling, which allowed orders through national book distributors. Although nominally a quarterly, publication became irregular, with only one issue in 2016 and no issues after 2017. In January 2013, volume 14 featured female idols on the cover for the first time, marking a shift toward idol culture. This led to live events and the establishment of a music label in 2015. The live venue Kagurazaka EXPLOSION, where X and GLAY had performed, collaborated with TRASH-UP!! and was renamed Kagurazaka TRASH-UP!! presented by EXPLOSION, opening on 28 March 2015. The venue hosted regular TRASH-UP!!-organised live events until March 2016, with other events continuing until the venue closed on 2 October 2018. On 1 September 2015, TRASH-UP!! RECORDS was announced as a management and music label mainly for female idols. Its first releases on 30 September 2015 were two singles: Avandando's 'Buncho' and Shojo Kakka no International's 'Otome no You na Kisetsu'. Just before these, on 16 September 2015, the idol compilation album 'Popcorn!' supervised by TRASH-UP!! was released by Ultra-Vybe. In 2016, the label's first produced idol group, SAKA-SAMA, debuted. From 2017, the label organised the 'Idol to Geijutsu' (Idols and Art) exhibition. In 2019, Mizuho Asakura and Kai, formerly of THERE THERE THERES, transferred from AqbiRec. Asakura performed as the solo unit ATOMIC MINISTRY and as a support member of SAKA-SAMA, while Kai worked solo until ending activities in September 2020. In 2021, the label's second idol group, innes, debuted. In 2022, Obake wa Tenkousei renamed to Dadadams and joined TRASH-UP!! RECORDS. In 2023, the label held the joint live project 'LLC (LOVE LIVE CLUB)' monthly with Laface Pro and SecondFactory. The limited unit Wakusei Tsushinsha, composed of members from Dadadams and SAKA-SAMA, debuted. The label also collaborated with the vinyl-only label Narisu Records on the 'IDOL VINYL 45' series. The label continues to release music and manage artists, with recent announcements including new releases in 2024 and member recruitment in 2026.
