Overview
Transporte Automotor La Plata S.A. (TALP) is an Argentine passenger bus company founded in 1966 in La Plata by a group of small transport entrepreneurs. Over the decades it grew into a reference operator in the Buenos Aires Province bus sector. Its administrative base and own garage and workshops are located in La Tablada, partido de La Matanza, where all repairs and fleet maintenance are carried out. TALP holds concessions for provincial lines 338, 351, 406 and 248C, covering urban, medium-distance and long-distance segments. The flagship line 338 connects La Plata with San Isidro, while lines 351 and 248C run long-distance services from La Plata to General Villegas, linking interior cities such as Junín, Mercedes, Suipacha, Chivilcoy, Chacabuco, Lincoln, Ameghino, General Viamonte, 9 de Julio, Bragado and Alberti. Line 406 is an urban short-distance service. Between 1981 and 2001 TALP manufactured its own bus bodies under the Platacar brand. In 2017, after the disappearance of Empresa General Roca, TALP absorbed part of its route into line 406, extending service to Ramos Mejía and Lomas de Zamora. In 2024 the company was acquired by Unión Platense and Colcar, following a 2023 fire that destroyed 14 units at its La Tablada terminal and service disruptions caused by delayed salary payments. TALP remains an active provincial bus operator under new ownership.
History
Transporte Automotor La Plata S.A. (TALP) was founded in 1966 in La Plata as an initiative of a group of small transport entrepreneurs. In the same year it obtained the concession for line 406, connecting San Justo with Barrio San José in Almirante Brown, an important milestone in its expansion. During the 1970s and 1980s TALP built its own bus bodies under the Platacar brand; from 1981 it began manufacturing its own carrocerías, driving a fleet renewal plan that lasted until 2001. Over time the company consolidated as a reference in the Buenos Aires Province passenger transport sector. Its administrative headquarters, garage and workshops are located in La Tablada, partido de La Matanza. TALP operates provincial lines 338, 351, 406 and 248C. Line 338 is its mother line, running between La Plata and San Isidro. Lines 351 and 248C are long-distance services from La Plata reaching General Villegas, linking interior cities such as Junín, Mercedes, Suipacha, Chivilcoy, Chacabuco, Lincoln, Ameghino, General Viamonte, 9 de Julio, Bragado and Alberti. In 2017, after the disappearance of Empresa General Roca, TALP added part of its route to line 406, extending service to Ramos Mejía and Lomas de Zamora with two branches: Ramos Mejía – San José (ramal Burzaco) and Ramos Mejía – Lomas de Zamora (ramal Lomas). In 2015 the company incorporated four new double-decker units on line 351. On 6 July 2023 a fire destroyed 14 units of lines 338 and 406 at the La Tablada terminal. In 2024 the purchase of the company by Unión Platense and Colcar was confirmed, driven by the 2023 fire and service stoppages due to delayed salary payments. TALP remains an active operator under new ownership.
