Overview

Transnorm System GmbH is a German manufacturer of high-performance modules for unit-load, container and carton conveying systems as well as parcel and airport baggage handling installations. Headquartered in Harsum in Lower Saxony, the company supplies both individual conveyor modules and complete conveyor lines for complex in-plant logistics facilities. Its parent company is Transnorm Group GmbH, also based in Harsum, and since 2018 the business has been part of Honeywell International Inc. The company traces its origins to 1957, when a special-purpose machinery business was founded. In 1969 it was renamed to its present form and focused on developing a complete modular building-block system for material flow technology. A defining innovation came in 1971, when Transnorm's curved belt conveyor with a special belt-guidance system was patented worldwide. International expansion followed with the founding of Transnorm System Ltd. in England in 1984, Transnorm System Inc. in Arlington, Texas, in 1989, and Transnorm System Sdn. Bhd. in Kluang, Malaysia, in 1994. In 2007 the company opened the Transnorm Competence Center (TCC) at its Harsum headquarters as a development and training centre. Transnorm's product range includes curved belt conveyors, horizontal and vertical high-performance diverters, discharge and distribution conveyors, inclined belt conveyors for merging and diverting, accumulation and indexing conveyors, vertical conveyors, belt conveyors, roller conveyors, belt-driven roller conveyors, chutes for unit loads, and other special conveyors. On the systems side it provides carton transport systems, sortation lines with integrated workstations, line merges, crossings and splits, connections to packing, palletising and sorter systems, goods-in and goods-out systems, and returns systems. The business is organised into three areas: conveyor technology modules and solutions, conveyor technology systems, and customer support. Ownership changed in December 2014 when IK Partners acquired Transnorm from Equita. In November 2018 IK Partners sold its majority stake to Honeywell Inc. Today Transnorm operates within Honeywell's warehouse automation portfolio, marketed as Transnorm conveyor and sortation systems, with lifecycle support services offered through Honeywell's industrial automation business.

History

Transnorm System GmbH traces its history to 1957, when a special-purpose machinery manufacturing company was founded in Germany. In 1969 the business was renamed to its current form and concentrated on developing a complete modular building-block system for material flow technology. A major technical breakthrough came in 1971, when the curved belt conveyor developed by Transnorm, featuring a special belt-guidance system, was patented worldwide. This innovation became a foundation of the company's product identity. International expansion began in 1984 with the establishment of Transnorm System Ltd. in England as the first foreign subsidiary. In 1989 Transnorm System Inc. was founded in Arlington, Texas, in the United States, and developed as a production site. In 1994 Transnorm System Sdn. Bhd. was established in Kluang, Malaysia, as another manufacturing location intended to open up Asian markets. In 2007 the company opened the Transnorm Competence Center (TCC) at its headquarters in Harsum, serving as a development and training centre. Ownership changed in December 2014, when IK Partners acquired Transnorm from Equita. In November 2018 IK Partners sold its majority stake to Honeywell Inc. Since then Transnorm has operated as part of Honeywell's warehouse automation business, with its conveyor and sortation systems and lifecycle support services marketed through Honeywell's industrial automation channels. The company remains headquartered in Harsum, Lower Saxony, with its parent entity Transnorm Group GmbH also based there.
