Overview
Transbozen Logistik GmbH is a family-owned Italian transport and logistics company headquartered in South Tyrol, with its roots in Bolzano and operations centred on Laion (Lajen). Founded in 1979 by Franz Hofer, who started with a single refrigerated truck, the company has grown into a specialist provider of refrigerated food transport and temperature-controlled warehouse logistics. It operates through four strategically positioned locations: two in northern Italy (Laion and Mozzecane), one in Austria (Vomp) and one in the Czech Republic (Vodňany). The company's core business is the transport of food products within Italy and to EU and non-EU countries. Its fleet of around 80 trucks and 160 employees handles full truck loads (FTL), partial loads (LTL), and warehousing with order picking and labelling. Transbozen uses high-tech refrigerated trailers with pipe tracks that allow continuous temperature control between -25°C and +25°C, monitored remotely via satellite and alarm systems. This enables it to carry dry foods as well as sensitive products such as fruit, vegetables and hanging meat. Its warehouses are temperature-controlled between +2°C and +20°C and include customs warehouse processing. Transbozen is certified according to ISO 9001, IFS Logistics and BIO, allowing it to transport all organic foodstuffs. The company describes itself as a leading provider in food transport and warehouse logistics, with a corporate philosophy of crossing boundaries and continuously expanding its potential. It remains a family-owned business, now managed by the second generation of the Hofer family: Franz, Margit, Herbert and Rudolf Hofer. With 45 years of transportation experience, 45,000 m² of storage space and 50,000 pallet spaces, Transbozen serves as a reliable partner for the food industry, emphasising on-time deliveries, quality and safety. Its green logistics initiatives include a modern fleet and clean solutions, reflecting a commitment to sustainability alongside operational excellence.
History
Transbozen's history began in 1979 when Franz Hofer started operations with a single refrigerated truck and established the company Transbozen GmbH in Bolzano, Italy. The company expanded in 1985 with a larger vehicle fleet, an office in Bolzano, and a rented car park with a small workshop in Colma (Barbiano). In 1991, Transbozen purchased a company site in the Barbiano artisan zone, and in 1994 built a new office building there, complete with staff apartments, a company-owned workshop and a car wash. A significant corporate development occurred in 2004 with the establishment of Transbozen Logistik GmbH. In 2006, the subsidiary Transbozen spol. s.r.o. was founded in Budweis (České Budějovice), Czech Republic. The following year, 2007, the company introduced a quality management system according to ISO 9001 and IFS Logistics according to EN450011. In 2009, the subsidiary TBA Transbozen Austria GmbH was established. In 2010, Transbozen Logistik GmbH obtained BIO certification, enabling it to transport all organic foodstuffs. In 2012, Transbozen spol. s.r.o. built a new office building and workshop in Vodňany, Czech Republic, and moved in the same year. The year 2015 was one of considerable growth and modernisation: the fleet was expanded by 50 trucks and converted entirely from emission class Euro 5 to Euro 6. In 2016, capacity and efficiency were further increased at the headquarters. The company has continued to operate as a family-owned business, now under the management of the second generation of the Hofer family: Franz, Margit, Herbert and Rudolf Hofer. As of recent years, Transbozen has established itself as a reliable partner in the food industry, with a sophisticated logistics network across four locations and expertise in refrigerated transport.
