Overview

Tram 2000 is a Belgian monthly magazine dedicated to public transport, with a particular focus on trams and buses. It is published by the non-profit association (asbl) Tram 2000, which has existed since 1985, while the journal itself dates back to March 1981, when it first appeared under the name Propost. The title was changed to Tram 2000 in 1982. From its beginnings the publication has addressed enthusiasts of trams and buses in Belgium, and over time it has broadened its coverage to include networks in France and Luxembourg. The magazine is produced by a core editorial team of about nine people, supported by numerous correspondents. It maintains agreements with the Brussels Urban Transport Museum (Musée du transport urbain bruxellois, MTUB) and the Association for the Tramway Museum (AMUTRA), under which information relating to those associations is published in Tram 2000, while the three parties retain editorial independence. The review has grown over the years and regularly publishes articles on the electrical side of metropolitan French networks, illustrated with many colour photographs of current events. In 2012 Tram 2000 had a print run of 1,350 copies, with an estimated readership of around 2,000. Issue number 300 was reached in December 2009, and the publication has maintained a rhythm of ten issues per year for more than twenty years. In the late 1990s, with the growth of the internet, the Tram 2000 website was created, and almost immediately a forum brought together French-speaking public transport enthusiasts; it closed in September 2021. In 2010 the website was redesigned, including a new online shop. The magazine continues to be published, with issue 468 scheduled for 1 October 2026.

History

The journal that became Tram 2000 first appeared in March 1981 under the name Propost. It was renamed Tram 2000 in 1982. The non-profit association (asbl) Tram 2000 was established in 1985. From its origin the publication targeted enthusiasts of trams and buses in Belgium. Over the decades the magazine expanded its scope. It concluded agreements with the Brussels Urban Transport Museum (MTUB) and the Association for the Tramway Museum (AMUTRA) to publish information about those associations, while all three parties kept editorial independence. The review also began publishing regular articles on the electrical part of metropolitan French networks, alongside many colour photographs of current events. In the late 1990s, with the development of the internet, the Tram 2000 website was created. Almost immediately a forum for French-speaking public transport enthusiasts appeared, eventually gathering several hundred registered members of all ages and professions. The forum closed in September 2021. In 2010 the website was overhauled, including a new online shop. Issue number 300 was reached in December 2009. By 2012 the magazine had a print run of 1,350 copies and an estimated readership of about 2,000. It has maintained a publication rhythm of ten issues per year for more than twenty years. The editorial team consists of a core of nine people assisted by numerous correspondents. The magazine remains active, with issue 468 scheduled for 1 October 2026.
