History

TOYO Roshi Kaisha, Ltd. traces its origins to 1917, when Toyo Roshi was founded in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, as Japan's first filter paper and test paper manufacturer. In 1933, Toyo Roshi Kaisha, Ltd. was established as a company in Utsunomiya. In 1961, responding to expanding demand and increasingly sophisticated products, the company spun off specialized divisions: scientific instrument manufacturing divisions (Toyo Seisakusho Co., Ltd. in Tokyo and Osaka), a filter paper manufacturing division (Toyo Tokushi Kogyo Co., Ltd. in Utsunomiya), and sales divisions (Toyo Kagaku Sangyo Co., Ltd. in Tokyo and Osaka). In 1977, Toyo Kagaku Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Osaka) and Toyo Seisakusho Co., Ltd. (Osaka) merged to create an integrated production and sales structure. In 1984, ADVANTEC was adopted as the group's unified brand. In 1986, Advantec Toyo Kaisha, Ltd. was launched by merging the Tokyo and Osaka Toyo Kagaku Sangyo companies. In 1995, a Tokyo distribution center was established in Yashio, Saitama, and the Far East Division of the U.S. entity Toyo Roshi International, Inc. (Utsunomiya) was absorbed as the overseas sales department of Advantec Toyo Kaisha, Ltd. In 1996, an Osaka plant was newly established and the Osaka sales office and manufacturing department were relocated from Chuo-ku, Osaka to Higashiosaka, Osaka, along with a new Osaka distribution center. In 1998, the Niigata plant was established as the group's largest production base, producing mainstay analytical filter papers and cartridges. In 1999, the manufacturing department obtained ISO9001 certification. In 2001, the manufacturing department was transferred to Toyo Seisakusho Co., Ltd. and became a sales trading company. In 2005, a second warehouse was added at the Tokyo distribution center and the three domestic ADVANTEC Group companies obtained approval related to a management innovation plan. In 2008, the head office moved from Taito-ku to Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, and the Tokyo sales office moved from Taito-ku to Adachi-ku. In 2012, Advantec Nissei Co., Ltd. (formerly Nissei Setsubi Kogyo Co., Ltd.) joined the ADVANTEC Group, adding equipment installation work. In 2013, the Chiba sales office relocated within Chiba City. In 2014, a Yokohama branch of the South Kanto sales office opened and the Shizuoka sales office relocated. In 2015, the Tsukuba sales office relocated. In 2017, Kanto Kobunshi Co., Ltd. joined the ADVANTEC Group, adding molding and processing of high-performance synthetic resin parts and mold design and production. In 2018, Filtration Labs were opened within the Tokyo and Osaka sales offices, and the LABCOM Sales Department was launched, positioning research facilities as a third pillar alongside filter paper and scientific instruments.
