History

Tower Hill opened in 1972 as a small insurance agency in South Florida, founded by W.T. Shively in Miami, Florida, as Mobile Home Insurance Associates. It remains owned by its founding family and has grown into one of Florida's largest residential property insurers, with offerings in 9 additional states. Over the years, more than two million customers have trusted Tower Hill to protect their homes and businesses. The company's original logo was eventually replaced by a sturdy tower atop a hill, giving rise to the name Tower Hill. The company grew into a family of companies, represented by over 500 employees and thousands of insurance agencies nationwide. Corporate offices moved to Gainesville, Florida, in 1980, and later to the current location in 1996. The company was renamed Tower Hill Insurance in 1995. It partnered with Omega Insurance Company in 1987, acquired Regency Insurance Company (Tower Hill Preferred) in 2000, and acquired DeSoto Prime Insurance Company (Tower Hill Prime) in 2003. A backup location was established in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2004. Tower Hill Select Insurance Company was formed in 2004, and the company underwent a re-branding in 2005. It partnered with Royal Palm Insurance Company in 2009, and in 2010 Tower Hill Preferred merged with Hillcrest Insurance Company. In 2011, Royal Palm Insurance Company was purchased by a Tower Hill affiliate (Tower Hill Signature). Tower Hill Insurance celebrated 40 years in 2012. In a federal lawsuit filed in Fort Lauderdale on August 13, 2026, Florida roofing contractor SFR Services and its owner sued Tower Hill Insurance Group and affiliated carriers. The complaint alleges federal and Florida racketeering, fraud, malicious prosecution, and abuse of process. It claims the insurers settled storm-damage claims and then sued to recover about $20 million, used the civil suit to provide material to state investigators, and destroyed the contractor's business. The allegations have not been tested and no court has ruled on the claims.
