Toplum ve Bilim

Toplum ve Bilim (Society and Science) is a Turkish academic journal of social sciences that has been published quarterly since 1977 under the umbrella of Birikim Yayınları. It was founded by Asaf Savaş Akat and Sencer Divitçioğlu, and its stated aim is to provide researchers with an intellectual and academic platform to expand knowledge in theoretical developments and new debates in human sciences, including sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, history, psychology, and law, while emphasizing solid connections between these disciplines. The journal publishes thematic dossiers (special issues), original research articles, book reviews, and intervening reviews (değini) on current or neglected scholarly issues, primarily but not exclusively within the context of Turkey. The journal follows a double-blind review process for original research manuscripts, while book reviews and intervening reviews are evaluated by members of the editorial board. Its ISSN is 1300-9354. The current editors-in-chief include Nilgün Toker (Prof. Dr.) and Menderes, and the general publication direction has been associated with Tanıl Bora since 1993. Historically, Toplum ve Bilim was a main venue for debates on Ottoman history and social order before 1980. After 1985, while still covering historical debates, it brought critical approaches to the modernization process onto the agenda. Between 1988 and 1993, it offered a rich catalog of articles spanning methodology debates, women's studies, urban structure, and political economy. From 1993 onward, each issue has focused on a specific topic in a dossier format.
