Overview

TMC, also known as Telemedicine Clinic, is a European teleradiology provider specialising in subspecialist radiology reporting. Founded in 2002 by Henrik Agrell, David Backstroem and Dr Hans Billing, the company was created with the vision of making high-quality subspecialist radiology accessible to all patients, regardless of location or local radiology shortages. It began providing teleradiology services to Swedish hospitals in 2003 and to UK hospitals in 2004, and has since grown into one of the leading teleradiology providers in Europe. TMC's core service is day and night-time subspecialist radiology reporting. Its network of more than 350 accredited subspecialist radiologists works across areas including neuroradiology, body imaging, musculoskeletal radiology and emergency radiology. The company supports more than 150 clients on a daily basis, including more than 50 NHS hospitals in the United Kingdom and around 100 hospitals in Sweden and Denmark. Reporting is underpinned by Optemis, TMC's own radiology management and reporting platform launched in 2013, together with a range of implemented AI solutions. TMC has been a pioneer in innovative diagnostic service models, including subspecialist elective teleradiology and overnight emergency reporting delivered from Australia using a follow-the-sun model, introduced in 2007. In 2017 the company became part of the Unilabs Group, the leading diagnostic group in Europe, and now operates as a Unilabs company. Its headquarters are in Barcelona, Spain. Beyond reporting services, TMC operates the TMC Unilabs Academy, which shares the collective knowledge of its subspecialist radiologists through courses, fellowships, modules and masterclasses. The company positions itself as a partner for subspecialist radiology, combining a collaborative radiologist network, proprietary technology and AI to deliver high-quality diagnostic reporting across borders.

History

TMC (Telemedicine Clinic) was founded in 2002 by Henrik Agrell, David Backstroem and Dr Hans Billing. The founding vision was to make it possible for all patients to access high-quality subspecialist radiology services regardless of location or country-specific radiology shortages. The company began providing teleradiology services to Swedish hospitals in 2003, and expanded to UK hospitals in 2004. This early cross-border reporting model established TMC as one of the pioneers of subspecialist elective teleradiology in Europe. In 2007 TMC launched on-call teleradiology services using a follow-the-sun model delivered from Australia, enabling overnight emergency reporting for European hospitals. In 2013 the company launched Optemis, its own radiology management and reporting system developed in-house, which became the technology backbone for its reporting operations. In 2020 TMC began using several AI solutions to support its diagnostic reporting. Over the last two decades TMC has grown into one of the leading teleradiology providers in Europe. It supports more than 150 clients on a daily basis, including more than 50 NHS hospitals in the United Kingdom and around 100 hospitals in Sweden and Denmark, using a collaborative network of more than 350 accredited subspecialist radiologists working across neuroradiology, body imaging, musculoskeletal radiology and emergency radiology. In 2017 TMC was acquired by Unilabs, described as the leading diagnostic group in Europe, and became part of the Unilabs Group. The company now operates as a Unilabs company, with its headquarters in Barcelona, Spain. It continues to develop innovative diagnostic services and operates the TMC Unilabs Academy, which shares the collective knowledge of its subspecialist radiologists through courses, fellowships, modules and masterclasses.
