Overview
TK Tracks (ティーケートラックス) is a Japanese music label and entertainment company founded by producer Tetsuya Komuro together with his high-school classmate Yutaka Kitamura. It originated as Komuro's first personal record label and as the corporate vehicle for running that label and producing his disco event, TK TRACKS NIGHT. The concept behind the label was to let Komuro freely play across dance music, pop and idol music, and to discover and develop hidden talent in an era when the karaoke boom made everyone a potential star. The label released several CDs, including singles and albums, under the TK TRACKS LABEL name, with the label itself operating within Merdack. Plans were announced for roughly six album releases a year, but as Komuro's activities shifted toward avex trax and the TM NETWORK project ended, the label went dormant. The company TK Tracks then became Yutaka Kitamura's business vehicle. Today it focuses on business coordination and the production and management of its affiliated artist Yuka, while continuing coordination work related to Komuro. Although it has moved away from its original character as a label and event operator, it remains connected to music. Artists currently affiliated with TK Tracks include Yuka. Artists who were formerly affiliated include Hayato Kobayashi, Koji Kubo, Kengo Otani and Cranky. Its main business partners have included Dentsu, Yamaha Football Club, Verite, Pioneer, Uchihara, Kunieda Shoten, Nitto Custodial Service, USEN, Lawson, Seven-Eleven and Tokimeki.com.
History
TK Tracks was established as a yugen-gaisha (limited company) by Yutaka Kitamura, a high-school classmate of Tetsuya Komuro, together with Komuro. Kitamura had begun handling entertainment business after coordinating Komuro's activities at the time, and the company was founded to realize Komuro's idea of establishing a personal label. Its original purpose was to operate that label and to plan and produce Komuro's disco event, TK TRACKS NIGHT. The label released several CDs, including singles and albums, under the TK TRACKS LABEL name, with the label itself based within Merdack. Around six album releases per year were announced, but the label went dormant as Komuro's activities came to center on avex trax and the TM NETWORK project ended. After a dormant period, the corporate entity TK Tracks became Yutaka Kitamura's business company. In the present day it focuses on business coordination and on producing and managing its affiliated artist Yuka, while also continuing coordination work related to Komuro. Although it has departed from its original character as a label and event operator, it can be said to remain connected to music.
