Overview
Tien Wah Press Holdings Berhad (TWPH) is a Malaysian investment holding company whose subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates are engaged in rotogravure and photolithography printing. Incorporated in Malaysia on 15 April 1995 as a private limited company and converted into a public company on 13 June 1995, TWPH listed on the Second Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 2 August 1996 and migrated to the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on 8 October 2007, now known as the Main Market. Its principal activity is investment holding, while the operating companies produce mainly gravure and offset printed materials for tobacco packaging (including cigarette packs), fast moving consumer product packaging and labels. The group traces its operational roots to the establishment of Tien Wah Press (Malaya) Sdn Bhd on 20 July 1960 with a workforce of 78, initially involved in photolithography printing specialising in book printing and folding carton conversion. In 1986 the company ventured into rotogravure printing technology to meet increasing demand in tobacco packaging. Since listing, TWPH expanded through joint ventures such as Benkert (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 1998 and Paper Base Converting Sdn Bhd in 1999, and later acquisitions and disposals that reshaped its portfolio. As a regional print supplier, TWPH operates four plants in Malaysia, Vietnam (two plants) and Australia, serving local and multinational companies in the Asian and Middle East regions. Its product portfolio includes flat unglued blanks, crash bottom or autolock cartons, labelled cartons, cartons with peelable labels or stickers, clamshells and trays, UV coated cartons, glued skillet cartons, multi wall cartons comprising innerframers, cartons with CD inserts and barrier coated cartons for grease or moisture resistance. The group also has subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities in Selangor, Ho Chi Minh City, Dubai and Kabupaten Malang, Indonesia. TWPH's ultimate shareholder is New Toyo International Holdings Limited, whose Specialty Papers Division complements the group's offering, enabling a more complete packaging solution particularly for the tobacco industry and other FMCG segments. The group emphasises continuous improvement, printing quality, product safety and high-speed production across its facilities.
History
Tien Wah Press Holdings Berhad (TWPH) was incorporated in Malaysia on 15 April 1995 as a private limited company and converted into a public company on 13 June 1995. The group's operational history began earlier with the establishment of Tien Wah Press (Malaya) Sdn Bhd (TWPM) on 20 July 1960 with a workforce of 78, initially involved in photolithography printing specialising in book printing and folding carton conversion. Spurred by steady business growth, TWPM ventured into rotogravure printing technology in 1986 to meet increasing demand in tobacco packaging. Since its listing in 1996, TWPH developed further by establishing joint venture companies: Benkert (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Benkert) in 1998 and Paper Base Converting Sdn Bhd (PBC) in 1999. Benkert operated as a member of the International Benkert Group, a major supplier of gravure printed and perforated tipping materials to global cigarette manufacturers. PBC manufactured aluminium foil laminated paper and paperboard for cigarette packaging and other applications such as liquor and cosmetics. PBC was disposed to New Toyo Lamination (M) Pte Ltd, a deemed substantial shareholder of TWPH, on 4 December 2008, and the remaining 30% shares in Benkert was disposed to Benkert UK Ltd on 7 March 2017.
