Think Tank Photo is a group of product designers and professional photographers on a mission to design and create the highest quality travel gear for the world's Venturing Observer. Founded in 2005 out of a desire to help photographers see the world and capture the moment, Think Tank designs and creates high quality travel gear for the world's venturing observers. Its product range includes camera bags, shoulder bags, backpacks, and rollers, with series such as the BackLight backpacks, Airport Rollers, Turnstyle sling bags, and Rotation180 technology backpacks.

Think Tank Photo was founded in 2005 out of a desire to help photographers see the world and capture the moment. The brand describes itself as a group of product designers and professional photographers on a mission to design and create the highest quality travel gear for the world's Venturing Observer. Its background traces to 1983-2003, when Doug Murdoch, motivated by climbing and adventure, started making gear for himself and friends at The Harness Factory in Sunland, California, and later worked for Mountain N' Air Sports, Adventure 16, and Lowepro, as well as being a design consultant. In 2004, Doug called Mike Sturm asking him to be part of a yet unnamed company focused on designing products for photographers; Mike was an expert designer, pattern maker, and sample maker. Also in 2004, Kurt Rogers became friends with Doug when they designed The Sideline Shooter belt pack, which became a standard for photojournalists.
