Overview

The Pacha Group is a Spanish entertainment and hospitality business founded by Ricardo Urgell in 1967. Its origins lie in the Pacha nightclub concept, which began in Sitges near Barcelona before expanding to Ibiza. The group is best known for Pacha Ibiza, a club that opened in 1973 and became one of the defining institutions of the island’s international nightlife economy. Over time, the Pacha name developed beyond a single venue into a broader portfolio spanning nightclubs, hotels, restaurants, events, merchandise, branded experiences and philanthropic activity. Pacha Ibiza was built in Ses Feixes, facing Ibiza Town, and was designed to evoke an Ibicencan farmhouse. Its location and programming connected the venue with Ibiza’s emerging reputation as a destination for bohemian travellers, music enthusiasts and international visitors. The club became associated with electronic dance music, resident-DJ formats and themed nights, particularly Flower Power, which began in 1981. Artists and DJs associated with the venue have included David Guetta, Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, Solomun, David Morales, Paul Oakenfold, Peggy Gou and Diplo. The club has also hosted long-running residencies and seasonal programmes such as David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous and Solomun’s +1. The group’s hospitality portfolio has included Pacha Hotel, located opposite Pacha Ibiza, and Destino Five Ibiza. Pacha Hotel was acquired in 2003 and later operated under the Pacha name. Destino Five Ibiza became part of the group’s resort and destination offering and underwent a major refurbishment in 2025, including an upgrade from four-star to five-star positioning. The wider portfolio has also included branded or affiliated entertainment concepts such as Toy Room, WooMoon and Storytellers. The Pacha brand is visually identified by a twin-cherries logo. The design was developed in the early 1980s for Guinda S.L., a Pacha Group company, by Yvette Montsalvatge, with inspiration reportedly drawn from Carmen Sevilla’s eye makeup. The cherries became a recurring feature on club façades, promotional posters, fashion, accessories, fragrances and home products sold through The Pacha Collection. The Pacha Foundation, established as a private nonprofit organisation in late 2018, formalised social-welfare activity associated with the group. In October 2023, Dubai-based FIVE Holdings acquired The Pacha Group for €302.5 million. The transaction was financed through a green bond and revolving credit facility and included the Pacha Ibiza nightclub, Destino Five Ibiza, Pacha Hotel, The Pacha Collection, several entertainment concepts and registered global rights to the Pacha name and twin-cherries logo. Following the acquisition, FIVE Holdings chairman and chief executive Kabir Mulchandani became chairman of The Pacha Group, while Aloki Batra, chief executive of FIVE Hospitality, also became group chief executive. In March 2024, FIVE launched Playa Pacha at FIVE LUXE in Dubai, extending the Pacha experience into the United Arab Emirates. Pacha remains positioned as a premium nightlife, hospitality and lifestyle brand with strong ties to Ibiza’s cultural and tourism identity.

History

The Pacha Group began in 1967 when Ricardo Urgell opened the first Pacha club in Sitges, near Barcelona. The original venue established the name as a nightlife concept before the business expanded to Ibiza, where Pacha Ibiza opened in 1973. The Ibiza club was constructed in Ses Feixes, facing Ibiza Town, and its architecture was designed to resemble a traditional Ibicencan farmhouse. At the time, Ibiza was attracting hippies, artists and other travellers seeking a permissive and unconventional lifestyle. Pacha’s opening helped turn the island’s social scene into an internationally recognised club destination. During the following decades, Pacha Ibiza developed a distinctive identity through electronic music, high-profile guest performers, themed events and seasonal residencies. Flower Power, introduced in 1981, became one of the venue’s longest-running themed nights. The club’s programming later included artists such as David Guetta, Carl Cox, Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, Solomun, David Morales, Paul Oakenfold, Peggy Gou and Diplo. The residency model became an important part of the Ibiza operation, allowing artists to host recurring weekly events over the summer season. David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous residency ran from 2001 to 2018, while later programmes included Solomun’s +1 and Marco Carola’s Music On. Pacha’s visual identity also matured during this period. In the early 1980s, Yvette Montsalvatge designed the twin-cherries logo for Guinda S.L., a company within the group. The design was reportedly inspired by Carmen Sevilla’s eye makeup. It was used extensively on posters promoting events at Pacha Ibiza and subsequently became the principal symbol of the wider brand, appearing on buildings, merchandise and promotional materials. The group expanded from nightlife into hospitality. In 2003 it acquired El Hotel Pacha, located opposite Pacha Ibiza, which later operated as Pacha Hotel. The portfolio subsequently included Destino Five Ibiza as well as restaurants, entertainment concepts and branded experiences. The Pacha Collection extended the business into fashion and lifestyle products, including clothing, accessories, fragrances and home décor. In late 2018, The Pacha Foundation was established as a private nonprofit organisation to consolidate and formalise the group’s social-welfare activities. Pacha Ibiza underwent a major renovation between the 2017 winter season and summer 2018, with architect Juli Capella involved in the redesign. Further refurbishments followed in 2019 and 2021. The changes included relocating the DJ booth to the centre of the dancefloor, reflecting a greater emphasis on interaction between performers and clubgoers. The venue continued to receive international recognition, including regular appearances in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs poll. In October 2023, FIVE Holdings acquired The Pacha Group for €302.5 million. The transaction included Pacha Ibiza, Destino Five Ibiza, Pacha Hotel, The Pacha Collection, Toy Room, WooMoon, Storytellers and registered global rights to the Pacha name and twin-cherries logo. Kabir Mulchandani, FIVE Holdings’ chairman and chief executive, became chairman of The Pacha Group, and Aloki Batra, chief executive of FIVE Hospitality, became its chief executive. The acquisition connected Pacha’s Ibiza heritage with FIVE’s Dubai-based hospitality platform. In March 2024, FIVE launched Playa Pacha at FIVE LUXE in Dubai. Destino Five Ibiza later underwent a comprehensive refurbishment in 2025, including a move to five-star positioning. The group therefore continues to operate as a combined nightlife, hospitality and lifestyle business, with Ibiza remaining the central source of its identity.
