The Helsinki Distilling Company

The Helsinki Distilling Company became operational in 2014 as the first distillery in Helsinki for over a century. It is located in Teurastamo, the former abattoir and now the food culture heart of Helsinki, where premium gin, whiskey and other spirits are hand-crafted from local ingredients. The company is run by two friends, Kai Kilpinen and Mikko Mykkänen, and produces award-winning premium gin, the first local aquavit, applejack from Finnish apples, "lonkero" and rye and single malt whiskey. It also operates Tislaamo, its distillery bar and restaurant.

The Helsinki Distilling Company became operational in 2014 as the first distillery in Helsinki for over a century. Its distillery is located in Teurastamo, which means abattoir in Finnish and served as the city's slaughterhouse from the 1930s to the 1990s; the distillery building had previously been used as a power plant for 30 years and afterwards as a soap factory, a meatball factory, a car wash and a wine cellar. The distillery is run by two friends, Kai Kilpinen and Mikko Mykkänen, and has been producing award-winning premium gin, the first local aquavit, applejack from Finnish apples, "lonkero" and rye and single malt whiskey since 2014.
