History
The Grumpy Baker was created in 2002 by Michael Cthurmer as a café/retail bakery on Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. Finding a niche for good, old-fashioned bread, particularly artisan sourdough with a more 'cheesy' and less 'vinegar' starter, he set out to conquer the bread world. Initially all baking was carried out in a small kitchen to the rear of the shop, and the smell of freshly baked bread attracted a regular clientele who enjoyed rustic, handmade gourmet bread free of preservatives and additives. The range of breads is now sold at numerous retail outlets throughout Sydney.
