Overview

The ePlane Company is an air taxi development company from India, officially incorporated in 2019 as Ubifly Technologies Pvt. Ltd. at IIT Madras by Prof. Satya Chakravarthy and core engineering leads. It developed the Synergistic Lift architecture, which decouples vertical rotors from forward flight wings to optimize energy consumption. Its flagship e200X is described as the world's most compact aircraft with the most versatile airframe, designed for air ambulance, air cargo and air taxi missions, with a compact 8 x 11 m footprint, all-electric vertical liftoff, and fail-safe redundancy. The company secured Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the DGCA in 2023, raised $14M in Series B funding in 2024, and unveiled the first full-scale 2.2-ton carbon-fiber e200X PT-01 prototype at its new 60,000 sq. ft. Thaiyur facility in 2026.

History

The ePlane Company was officially incorporated as Ubifly Technologies Pvt. Ltd. at IIT Madras in 2019 by Prof. Satya Chakravarthy and core engineering leads, and developed the core concept of the Synergistic Lift architecture, decoupling vertical rotors from forward flight wings to optimize energy consumption. In 2021–2022 it built and flight-tested the e6 (ATVA) hybrid drone for surveillance and cargo logistics and initiated international patent filings for the Synergistic Lift architecture across 25 jurisdictions. In 2023 it completed the flight test phase of the e50 (3/8th scale prototype), proving vertical takeoff, forward transition flight, and vertical landing, and became the first private Indian entity to secure Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the DGCA. In 2024 it secured $14M in Series B funding ($21.5M cumulative capital), received DGCA acceptance for the in-house propeller certification program, and had its Type Certification (TC) application for the flagship e200X formally accepted by the DGCA. In 2025 the Synergistic Lift patent was officially granted in 10 countries including India, the full-scale e200X airframe design was unveiled at AeroIndia, and cross-sector commercial commitments were established across emergency medical services (ICATT Air Ambulance) and passenger air taxi operators. In 2026 it unveiled the first full-scale, 2.2-ton carbon-fiber prototype (e200X PT-01) at the new 60,000 sq. ft. Thaiyur facility and established Tier-1 supply chain and engineering footprint expansion.
