Teufelberger

Teufelberger is an Austrian family-owned company whose history dates back to the establishment of a hemp ropery by Jakob Teufelberger in Bad Wimsbach, Austria. The company relocated its rope factory to Wels in 1901, where the family business is still based. It is organized into three divisions—Fiber Rope, Wire Rope, and Strapping Solutions—and employs around 1,400 people at 14 locations worldwide. The company is led by a two-member Executive Board consisting of CEO Florian Teufelberger and COO Georg Heftberger.

At the age of 21, Jakob Teufelberger laid the foundation for today's company in Bad Wimsbach, Austria, with the production of hemp ropes for agriculture. Subsequent generations expanded the customer base to include salt rafts on the Traun River and began industrializing the craft. In 1901, the rope factory was built on a 250-meter-long plot on the outskirts of Wels, where the family business is still based today. In 1917, the first Teufelberger steel wire ropes were produced on a 12-spool wire rope making machine, with diameters up to 8 mm. From 1941, synthetic fibers replaced hemp, with polyamide and polyester used to make fiber ropes. In 1966, the first extruder for split fiber yarns, packaging, and baler twines was commissioned. In 1977, the first manufacturing plant for strapping was commissioned, producing polypropylene (PP) strapping under the TEWE® brand. In 1997, production of PET strapping was launched. In 2014, Teufelberger sold its baler twine segment to the European market leader for agricultural crop packaging.
