The company was founded in 1948 in Cheshire by Eric Terry, an engineer who developed the first personal hand-wound lift for a local family. In 1988, Terry Lifts launched the Harmony, a through-floor home lift, and has since introduced other models including the Affinity home lift.

The company was founded in 1948 in Cheshire by Eric Terry, an engineer who developed the first personal hand-wound lift for a local family. In 1988, Terry Lifts launched the Harmony, a through-floor home lift. Since then, the company has introduced the Harmony FE and Lifestyle home lifts, and the Affinity home lift, a two-person, two-level standing or seated domestic home lift. In 2020, David Allen replaced Peter Morrey as Managing Director, who then became Chairman. In 2024, an Ultra Compact Home Lift was introduced, and the export market was expanded into the United States of America and Canada. In 2025, Tim Barrow was appointed Managing Director.
