Overview
Tero Entertainment is a Thai mass-media and entertainment company whose activities span live-event promotion, ticketing, recorded music, film production, television production and radio. Its corporate history begins with World Media Supply, established on 12 May 1994. The business was reorganized as BEC-Tero Entertainment on 27 March 1998 as a joint venture between BEC World Public Co. Ltd., the operator of Thailand's Channel 3, and entrepreneur Brian L. Marcar. BEC-Tero consequently developed at the intersection of broadcasting, international entertainment and event production. The company became particularly visible through its concert-promotion business. It organized and promoted performances by international artists in Thailand, including Elton John and 50 Cent, and used large venues such as Impact Arena for major shows. It also operated a smaller event venue known as BEC-Tero Hall at Bangkok's Suan Lum Night Bazaar. After the lease ended in March 2007, the venue became known as Bangkok Hall, while Tero continued to seek locations and formats for live events. Concert promotion remained closely connected to ticket distribution, helping the company build an integrated entertainment platform rather than functioning only as a promoter. Ticketing was developed through the THAITICKETMASTER brand, which BEC-Tero operated from 1999 for concerts and other events. In 2007, THAITICKETMASTER merged with Major Ticketing, a business associated with Major Cineplex Group, to form THAITICKETMAJOR. The resulting service sold tickets through online channels and physical outlets, including Major and EGV cinema locations, Central Department Store branches and post-office branches. It later expanded into intercity bus ticketing. This gave the company a significant distribution role in Thailand's event and leisure economy. Tero also built a music business. In 2001, BEC-Tero entered a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment to establish a Thai division of the label. The initial partnership ended in 2007 and was revived in 2012. Artists associated with the Sony operation included Tata Young and the duo Same Same, formed by Clint and Bob Moffatt. The wider music portfolio also included the Bakery Music and Black Sheep labels, which focused on independent music, and distribution for the LOVEis label. In film, the company operated Film Bangkok and Chalermthai Studio. Film Bangkok's credits included Thai productions such as Angulimala, Bangkok Dangerous, Bangrajan, Goal Club, SARS Wars, Saving Private Tootsie, Som and Bank: Bangkok for Sale, Tears of the Black Tiger, The Remaker and The Siam Renaissance. Film Bangkok was later shut down, with SARS Wars identified as its final production. The company's broader media interests also included television production and radio through Tero Radio. A major ownership change occurred in December 2020, when BEC World announced the sale of its shares in BEC-Tero to Brian L. Marcar for 15 million baht. Following the transaction, the company changed its name from BEC-Tero Entertainment to Tero Entertainment. In March 2021, Tero withdrew the programs it produced for Channel 3 HD and shifted its new-program production toward Channel 7 HD, while morning news programming was transferred to Channel 3's news department. The move marked a significant change in the company's television relationships. Tero Radio announced in 2025 that it would close its radio operations at the end of that year, citing changes in media-consumption behavior. This reflects the broader transition affecting traditional broadcasters, while Tero's historical activities continue to position it as a diversified Thai entertainment operator centered on events, content and media services.
History
Tero Entertainment's origins lie in World Media Supply, which was formed in Thailand on 12 May 1994. The business became BEC-Tero Entertainment on 27 March 1998 through a joint venture involving BEC World Public Co. Ltd., the operator of Thai Channel 3, and Brian L. Marcar. This structure gave the company access to broadcasting relationships while allowing it to develop activities outside conventional television, particularly in music and live entertainment. From the late 1990s, BEC-Tero expanded into ticketing and concert promotion. It operated THAITICKETMASTER from 1999 as a ticketing service for concerts and other events. In 2007, THAITICKETMASTER merged with Major Ticketing, associated with Major Cineplex Group, to create THAITICKETMAJOR. The combined operation used online sales and a broad physical network that included cinema outlets, department-store branches and post offices. Intercity bus tickets were added to the service in 2007. Live entertainment became one of the company's most recognizable activities. BEC-Tero promoted concerts by international performers in Thailand, with large events commonly held at Impact Arena. It also ran BEC-Tero Hall at the Suan Lum Night Bazaar in Bangkok for smaller concerts and other events. The lease ended in March 2007, after which the site was renamed Bangkok Hall. The company continued to operate as a promoter even as its venue strategy changed. The music division developed through both partnerships and owned or associated labels. In 2001, BEC-Tero partnered with Sony Music Entertainment to create a Thai division of Sony Music. Although the arrangement ended in mid-2007, it was revived in 2012. The roster included Tata Young and Same Same, the duo of Clint and Bob Moffatt. BEC-Tero also operated or was associated with Bakery Music and Black Sheep, labels oriented toward independent music, and distributed releases from LOVEis. Screen production was another part of the company's portfolio. Film Bangkok and Chalermthai Studio served as film-production arms. Film Bangkok was associated with productions including Tears of the Black Tiger, Bangkok Dangerous, Angulimala, Bangrajan, The Siam Renaissance, Saving Private Tootsie and SARS Wars. The company identified SARS Wars as the final film produced by the subsequently shuttered Film Bangkok. Tero's media activities also included television production and the Tero Radio business. The company's relationship with BEC World changed decisively in December 2020. BEC World announced the sale of its BEC-Tero shares to Brian L. Marcar for 15 million baht. After the transaction, the company changed its name to Tero Entertainment, ending the BEC-Tero branding associated with the former joint-venture structure. In March 2021, Tero moved its new television-program production away from Channel 3 HD and toward Channel 7 HD, with morning news programs becoming the responsibility of Channel 3's news department. Tero Radio later announced that it would cease operations at the end of 2025. The stated reason was the shift in how audiences consume media, particularly the movement away from traditional radio toward newer formats. Across its history, Tero has therefore moved between broadcasting, recorded music, films, ticketing and live events, with its identity shaped by the integration of content production and entertainment distribution.
