History
The company was founded in May 1936 by Goro Kikuchi under the name Shokai in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, for the purpose of synthetic resin molding and the manufacture and sale of insulating materials. In September 1940 it was reorganized as a stock company under the name Tensho Electric Industries Co., Ltd. Its early products included electrical components such as sockets and switches made from electrical insulating materials and thermosetting resins, and it pioneered the commercialization of plastic radio cabinets. In October 1961 it was listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Over subsequent decades it established factories in Osaka, Nihonmatsu, Sagamihara, Fukushima and other locations, and expanded internationally with technical tie-ups and subsidiaries in Thailand, Indonesia, China, Poland, the United States and Mexico. In June 2008 the head office was moved from Wakabayashi, Setagaya-ku to Machida, Tokyo, and in August 2023 it was moved from Machida to Komazawa, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
