Overview

Tenczynek Brewery (Browar Tenczynek) is a Polish brewery located in Tenczynek, Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Its origins date back to before 1553, when it belonged to the estate of Andrzej and Stanisław Tęczyński. The current brewery building was established by Count Adam Potocki of Krzeszowice, who built a brewery and distillery equipped with then-modern steam machinery. Tenczynek beer won a gold medal at an exhibition in Pilsen in 1904 and was sold in cities including Vienna and Budapest. The brewery was destroyed during World War II, and beer production was not resumed in the rebuilt facility after the war. During the Polish People's Republic era, the building housed a fruit and vegetable processing plant (ZPOW), which was privatized in the 1990s. Around 2010–2011 the ZPOW in Tenczynek was acquired by Makarony Polskie, which was not interested in resuming beer production. On 14 May 2014, Browar Tenczynek was purchased by Browary Regionalne Jakubiak, which began renovating the building. Beer production resumed in 2015. In 2018 the plant was acquired by Manufaktura Piwa, Wódki i Wina, owned by Janusz Palikot. Since 2021, beer with hemp dry matter of the BUH brand has been produced in Tenczynek as the flagship product of the company "Przyjazne państwo", founded by Janusz Palikot, Kuba Wojewódzki and Tomasz Czechowski. Personalities such as Katarzyna Warnke and Iggy Pop took part in promoting beers produced by the plant. On 11 December 2024, the District Court for Kraków-Śródmieście issued a decision declaring the bankruptcy of Manufaktura Piwa Wódki i Wina. In 2022 the brewery produced beer styles including Pils, Bock, Pszeniczne Marcowe, Lager, American Wheat, Milk Stout, IPA, Miodowe, BUH and Český Ležák. The brewery also has its own online shop.
