Overview
Temple of Seitan is a London vegan fast food chain. It began in 2015 when Rebecca McGuinness, recently moved to London from Australia, started experimenting in her home kitchen to recreate the flavours and textures of the fast food chicken shops she had loved before becoming vegan. After serving seitan chick'n at markets and events around London in 2016, the brand opened the UK's first vegan fried chicken shop on Morning Lane, Hackney in 2017, and a second sit-down location in Camden in 2018. It has also launched retail seitan products in partnership with The Tofoo Co.
History
Temple of Seitan began in 2015 when Rebecca McGuinness, having recently moved to London from Australia, started experimenting in her home kitchen to recreate the flavours and textures of the fast food chicken shops she loved and missed from before she was vegan. In 2016, she began serving her seitan chick'n at markets and events around London, and attendees at vegan festivals and street food markets across the UK witnessed the birth of Temple of Seitan. In 2017, the brand garnered national and international media coverage with the opening of the UK's first vegan fried chicken shop on Morning Lane, Hackney, where hundreds queued for the Temple of Hackney menu. Temple of Hackney was named Best Vegan Restaurant in the UK at the VegFestUK Awards, with more than 20% of the public vote. In 2018, Temple of Seitan opened a second physical location, a sit-down dining experience in Camden, and was flown out to the USA to headline the Eat Drink Vegan festival in Los Angeles. The brand also teamed up with The Tofoo Co to launch two retail seitan products: Original Seitan and Pepperoni Seitan.
